Please bear with, Bob; this is not off-topic. I just NOW sent this letter to the editor of my local paper:On Monday, Mrs. Jean White asked why someone in Alabama Shores would fly the American flag upside-down alongside a Confederate Flag. As a lifetime student of this area’s sociological fringe, I feel it my duty to explain.Mrs. White, the upside-down American flag first appeared in the Shoals following the election of Bill Clinton, who was (we were told) the antichrist. His inauguration was deemed the enthroning of the beast and the supplanting of America’s constitution by sinister forces bent on freedom’s destruction.Now, the upside-down American flag has reappeared in the Shoals following the election of Barack Obama, who is (we are told) the antichrist. His inauguration is deemed the enthroning of the beast and the supplanting of America’s constitution by sinister forces bent on freedom’s destruction.Eight years of the ‘Unitary Executive’ doctrine, torture, wiretapping, and Quixotic foreign adventure did not bother the upside-down flag hanger-uppers. Fascism was just peachy with them; violence against brown people made them feel safe and strong.Now that a brown man is president, I leave it to Mrs. White to imagine what the Confederate Flag is all about.I post the above as prelude to the following: guys like Wesley Pruden are fucking cowards, and I respect them a hell of a lot less than people who fly Confederate flags in their yards. Those racists at least have the courage to admit they are racists; Pruden lacks the mental courage to admit his racism to himself, much less his readers.

That Pruden can write this garbage and keep a straight face after Bush was president is amazing. While Dubya was representative of Pruden’s America, he didn’t have any kind of instinctive appreciation for it. I would even say that of all of our presidents Mr. Obama is actually the first to really have an instinctive appreciation for America, because he saw it from the other side, so to speak, and he knows that much of our culture, much of what’s good in our culture, historically, came from, and still does comes out of the black community or was heavily influenced by it, sans credit from the white community. And I would even say that while Mr. Obama may not appreciate certain aspects of it, like say slavery, Jim Crow laws, racism, sexism, etc., he certainly understands the inner machinations of America and definitely has a more holistic view of it than most of our Presidents.

Amen, Matt. It’s the same thing here where I live. In fact, just the other day I got into it with a guy who had a “The South Was Right” Confederate battle flag bumper sticker on his truck, and I flat out told him the South was wrong, fucking wrong, as a matter of fact, and tried to get him to defend himself but he backed into his pickup like a crayfish going under a rock and drove off. I can’t let crap like that go unchecked.

I followed the link to the WT and tried to read some of the comments following Pruden’s rant but frankly it turned my stomach.The only way to combat that sort of deeply ingrained racism is to educate our children, expose it for what it is, and wait for these dinosaurs to die off. Trying to debate or argue with these nuts is pointless….all they know is the hatred and fear of anyone who doesn’t look like them.

All that I can say is a dumb idiot is a dumb idiot and that makes him, as you may have correctly concluded, as presumptuous moron.See, to imbeciles like the one you’re higlighting, blacks President Obama has yet to achieve the true American dream, which would involve knowing his place and espousing the American con-servative theory.

When I read the Cescan description, I thought, “whatever- more racial *DRAMA*” until I read…”The genetic imprint writ large in his 43 predecessors is missing from the Obama DNA.”Woah. Did he follow this with a loud “SIEG HEIL” in his office?

All we can do is continue to expose these zealots of fear to the light and maybe the children will see through it. Like shining a flashlight under the bed makes monsters disappear. Call them out. Every time you encounter one.

There is tremendous irony in a writer for the Mooneytoons Propaganda Rag calling anyone besides their owner un-American. Rev. Moon is a vicious fascist racist and this is the sort of garbage the Washington Times was created to promulgate.
