Weakling Democrats

Democratic Senators Hagen and Bingaman are refusing to vote for a public option in the HELP committee.

According to a source with direct knowledge of what is happening on the HELP Committee, the problem is that two Democrats — Kay Hagan and Jeff Bingaman — are refusing to sign on.

“We can’t bring it up because we’d actually lose the vote,” said the source. “They’d vote with the Republicans.”

But, polar opposite to these two spineless bastards, Senator Sanders won’t vote for the bill without a strong public option — and his vote will stop any bill from passing out of the committee. Be sure to tell the senator that you have his back.

Adding… And Jane Hamsher suggests:

You can reach out to Bingaman (202-224-5521) and Hagan (202-224-6342)–please let us know what you hear.

Thanks for Hagan’s number Bob. I have been calling the last 5 minutes, it is busy. She will hear from me.All other NC’ers, let’s bug the shit out of her.

I got through. The lady who answered the phone said this isn’t true and asked what I was hearing. I read the article to her and told her that if this isn’t true-put out a statement refuting it. It if is true, to stop it and go with her constituents and not the industry.I added at the end that I expect to see a press release refuting this by the end of business tomorrow. All she said was she would pass along to the Senator.

Way to be a Citizen™ vera. Hopefully it isn’t true, but who knows. Is NC home to a lot of healthcare companies? Not that bribery is necessarily local these days.

we have a lot of pharma companies(Research Triangle Park). I know there are insurance companies, but I don’t know if they are HQ’d here.Around here, they just opened a research facility where all the textile mills used to be.

I just posted a message to her via her website(http://hagan.senate.gov) informing her how disgusted I was with her decision

I worked very hard for the Democratic Party and, specifically for President Obama, in the hopes he would carry the State of NC and to get rid of that zombie Elizabeth Dole.

This is the “change” we get. As I said to Ms. Hagan via email, we’ll rid ourselves of her if she doesn’t start to back the interests of her constituents.

Hey fiascoit was fun getting them elected and having NC turn blue huh?

  • eljefejeff

Do you have to be a resident of NC for her to actually listen?I can’t believe after the Obama turnout helped her become a senator, she’d backstab him like this on one of his major issues.

  • Fiasco

    Hey Vera,

Yes! It was exceptionally fun! I held both my children out of school the day after the election just so they could see the results come in that night.

Too bad it took so long for NC to finally be declared for Obama but, it was a historic night none-the-less!

Wow…that’s especially infuriating (if true) about Hagan, considering the level of Obama coat tail riding that went on. My fellow North Carolinians will remember the commercials (they were EVERYWHERE), telling us that yeah, you should vote for Obama – but if you want him to be able to get anything done, you’ve gotta vote for Hagan and Perdue also.Gotta think that boosted her support among African Americans and helped push her over the top. Thanks a bunch for calling vera – I’m out of the country and don’t have access to a phone for the next week or so; If there’s no update on this by the time I get back I’m gonna follow your good example.

I just called Bingaman’s office and the lady who answered told me the same thing–the senator does support the public health care option. I told her that was a relief since I was planning to donate money to the opposition of any Democratic senator who did not support this option. She sounded annoyed and just told me that was my prerogative, but the senator did support the public option. So why the dueling messages I wonder.

I finally go through to Hagan’s office and asked them to please encourage the senator to support the public option because it doesn’t feel right to donate money to the opposition of any Democratic senator opposing this. They kindly took my name and zip code, which I didn’t mind providing, and that was that. They didn’t tell me the senator supports the public option like Bingaman’s office did.I don’t guess they care if a donation to their opponent comes from their state or from another.
