Grasshole

This is shocking. The following is an actual exchange with Chuck Grassley at a town hall in Waukon, IA this past week:

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) was asked by a constituent of his: “Why is your insurance so much cheaper than my insurance and so better than my insurance?”

When Grassley struggled to explain the details of his own health care plan, the elderly man followed up, “Okay, so how come I can’t have the same thing you have?”

Grassley said, “You can. Just go work for the federal government.”

Government healthcare is excellent, but only for people in government. Like a United States Senator. So go run for Senate — and if you win, you can have good healthcare.

Bastard people.

I would like to point out that a distinction must be made between “government” healthcare, and “congressional” healthcare. As a government employee (Dept. of Interior), I certainly don’t share the same coverage as the politicians in Washington. In fact, I truly wonder what sort of healthcare they actually have. I’ve heard all sorts of rumors over the years, such as it being free, for life, best doctors, etc. I don’t really know the details, but I can tell you that’s not what all government employees have, despite the insinuation of Grassley.

I’ve worked in the private sector before my government service, and in my experience, my healthcare plan is about average. We have a choice of plans (I went with Blue Cross), and my portion of the premiums are close to half of the total cost, with my employer paying the rest.

I don’t want to sound like a martyr, because I know that this is far better than what many people have. But it’s also a far cry from what people think of when they use the phrase “government healthcare”, and it’s not fair to lump us all in the same boat.

It sounds better than the healthcare I’ve had since 2002 which is NONE! I’m a relatively healthy person and have been lucky all these years but, I chose not to take any insurance offered by my employers over the years because I CAN’T AFFORD IT. PERIOD. My expenses are such that I can’t afford to have any money taken out of my paycheck. As a single person with no dependents the taxes taken out of my check are enormous!

Oh, and Grassley is a complete asshole! I can’t stand these ignorant, country ass morons. The people of his state are equally ignorant for sending this stupid bastard to Washington in the first place. I hope your state collapses under the weight of it’s own debt. You deserve every bad thing that happens to you for your stupidity. Stupid Saltines!

And this is your brain on Republican Talking Points.Grassley’s downright rude quite often, so why do they keep voting for him? Ugh.

It’s answers like this and Max Baucus’ “we need more police” comment that should disqualify these buffoons from having anything to do with forming health care reform policy. They DO NOT give a rat’s ass about those in serious need of health care.Completely out of touch morons.

Well, obviously Grassley agrees with Gingrich that, “They have it done well. And the fact is, overall, 71 percent of Americans are relatively satisfied with the health insurance.”Out. Of. Touch. And effing delusional!Although I must say I’m part of that 71%. I have Medicare! Oops that’s a “public option”!

ALL NJ State employees receive free heath care.Do other state employees receive the same benefit.I had an employee that I managed when I had a job that left his 80,000 dollar a year position for a 60K a year job with free heath care.I didn’t understand it then but I do now.

  • ceu

I’m confused. I thought the GOPers wanted a smaller gov’t. But if we all went to work for got gov’t in order to get decent, affordable health care coverage wouldn’t that make government bigger??

Unfortunately, Grassley is my senator, and he has been since I was a kid. I grew up, moved away for 18 years, and he was still here when I moved back. Why do Iowans vote for him? Well, unfortunately our best and brightest grow up and move away, just like I did. For the last seven years, I’ve served on my local school board. And as I pointed out to one of my school board colleagues regarding our district’s reading scores, given our state’s conservative bent and lack of economic vision, we keep losing all the readers. They all move away, like I did, to live where they can find jobs and pay off their student loans. So we’re left with the blue collar working Iowans who get most of their information via cable news and talk radio. They also hold conservative moral values and thus have bought the Republican “party of family values” myth. I’ve witnessed this bait and switch my whole life and predicted the whole debacle of the last 30 years during the 1980 election. But who’s going to listen to a 17-year-old?Another reason Grassley has survived all these years is that he has been a consistent supporter of agriculture, and that’s still Iowa’s big industry. But as farm jobs continue to shrink and greater need for public programs like health care increase, he’ll have more trouble getting elected. Iowa was the first to support Obama, and Democrats and Independents got organized. That’s what Grassley faces next time.
