Oh, And It’ll Create A Surplus, Too

The House healthcare reform bill, complete with the public option, will be revenue neutral in its first ten years and eventually will generate a surplus:

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released estimates this evening confirming for the first time that H.R. 3200, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, is deficit neutral over the 10-year budget window – and even produces a $6 billion surplus. CBO estimated more than $550 billion in gross Medicare and Medicaid savings. More importantly, the bill includes a comprehensive array of delivery reforms to set the stage for lowering the future growth in health care costs.

Aw damn. Time for the corrupt and spineless to come up some more fake arguments to protect their corporate bosses.

Adding… Shame on the House for releasing this information on a Friday night. The CBO report isn’t going anywhere — Monday would’ve been fine and dandy.

Where is the House leadership? Where is the Senate leadership? Shouldn’t they be shouting this from the rooftops? Shouldn’t they be standing in front of a microphone waving this report around wildly and using it to beat the Republicans/Blue Dog turncoat Democrats over the head?

There is one problem, this isn’t what the CBO said. Anyone can check the CBO report.http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/104xx/doc10464/hr3200.pdfBottom page 4 “CBO estimates that those changes would cost $228 billion over the 2010-2019 period”Page 17 for the complete chart. So where did this surplus story come from? Again check for yourself.http://speaker.house.gov/blog/?p=1872This is “The Gavel” blog page for Nancy Pelosi.”This entry was posted on Saturday, July 18th, 2009 at 11:03 am by Karina”The link in the blog takes you to the same report as above, so if anyone can find in that report where it says it’s deficit neutral, please advise. Here are the numbers for the deficit from that link, page 17.Total, Changes in Direct Spending 9.2 6.2 -3.8 -10.5 -36.8 -30.9 -25.8 -34.2 -42.2 -50.5 -35.8 -219.3There is no surplus, as you can see.

I read this here first, and followed your sourcing link to a few different sites without finding the original report.Without being deterred, I went straight to Google and found numerous news stories regarding this report. From those, I found out that this is actually a press release from George Miller, the Democratic chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, not actually from the CBO.On top of that, the numbers from the CBO do not add up to this answer, as demonstrated it graph form at http://dmarron.com/2009/07/20/house-bill-fails-budget-tests/

Devin-Here is the direct link to the CBO document.http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/104xx/doc10464/hr3200.pdfor you can just go to cbo.govBottom page 4 “CBO estimates that those changes would cost $228 billion over the 2010-2019 period”See Page 17 for a more detailed chart. It’s interesting to look at other economists analysis, but in the end, all that matters is what the CBO says. That’s just the way it is.

All irrelevant since the CBO is full of shit – no matter what they put out, one side or the other always says so.
