Republican Sabotage. Again.

During the recovery bill process, we discussed at length the notion of Republican sabotage (here and here). In other words, the Republicans were tricking spineless Democrats into caving to their wingnut demands, and then turned around and refused to vote for the recovery bill anyway.

Well, the Democrats never learn.

Max Baucus just got screwed by the Finance Committee Republicans. AmericaBlog:

So, remember the big deal reached in the Senate by Max Baucus and those GOP Senators? Not true say those GOP Senators, Grassley (IA) and Enzi (WY).

Even better (or worse), Enzi said there will be no deal unless he gets everything he wants in the final bill.

And even if Enzi and Grasshole get everything they want in the bill, my educated hunch is that they and the Republicans still won’t vote for it. That’s just how they roll. Classic scorpion and the frog hackery. So at this point, if there’s any reason or rationality left in Max Baucus’s bribed skull and any testosterone left in Harry Reid’s nuts, they have to entirely ignore the Republicans from here on out. Jettison them now. Ignore Grasshole. Ignore Enzi. Flip them the bird and walk away. The Democrats do not need them. 60 votes.

Have you checked out Nate Silver’s post on the Republicans etc? Also–and I don’t know why this seems so obvious now; but I’ve started reminding my Repub friends (and myself) that when democratically elected representatives get elected on their platforms–WHY would we think they should have to GIVE IN to the minorities definition of reform?? Bi-partisan is noble and all; but it was DEMOCRATS that were elected; NOT Republicans. And if Democrats don’t deliver to the American people who elected them; they WON’T be re-elected. This whole hooey being heard now about Repubs aren’t against reform, they’re just against Democratic reform; well GET OVER IT. That si NUTS. There was no appeasing Democratic concerns on Nat’l Security/war for 8 years. I just don’t get WHY they would assume reform would be anything other than representative of the party whose constituents put them there!!!

Senate Democrats: “Gee, Lucy, a football for me to kick?”Good grief.

An age-old truth reasserts itself in Washington:The only thing harder than building a majority is holding one together.

Good GRIEF for sure. Why are the DUMBOCRATS acting so friggin’ STUPID?We have no chance with these morons in charge.Damn if we don’t need a 3rd party.

“Enzi said there will be no deal unless he gets everything he wants”Apart from a seeming unawareness (aided by the Blue Dogs’ behaviour)that they are a minority, it’s obvious they have NO understanding of negotiation or compromise. Pity the Democratic contingent is not using the opportunity to teach them that a little more co-operation and humility is called for when you are not the party in power.I’d hate to see the GOP continue to be this arrogant throughout the entire term, without the Democrats, as a group, learning how to use their mandate to lead.

Not surprised at all. I don’t think any of us expected to get more than a few votes for all the concessions that will be made. The bill could have declared that Jesus is Lord, Abortion is now Illegal forever and ever and Obama was born in Kenya and still the Republicans would vote no.And listen for the sonic boom of Harry Reid rushing to a microphone to tell us he’s still going to try for bipartisan support.

    “Damn if we don’t need a 3rd party.”And a 4th and 5th one.What a sick thing, the American politics.

Baucus is a fool. He deserves to lose his gavel for this.

And let’s remember that Baucus isn’t just working to secure votes from the Republicans, he’s serving his health care mafia masters. Claiming to be working toward “a bill that will get the votes necessary on the Senate floor” sounds noble and bipartisany, but we all know that the corporations that fund his election campaign do not want a strong public option. By working so closely with Republicans, he can gut the bill to make his masters happy while blaming the Republicans for it’s failure.

Keep up the phone calls/emails to your representatives, though! My representative, Jared Polis, was against the Dems plan as recently as this week but has buckled under immense pressure.http://www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_12940518If we have any hope of passing meaningful legislation, we need to take hold.
