The Birther Party

The Republicans are absolutely out of their gourd.

A new DailyKos/Research2000 poll reveals the shocking news that 58 percent of Republicans sympathize with the far-right birthers. Twenty-eight percent don’t believe that President Obama was born in the U.S., and another 30 percent aren’t sure. The birther sentiment was strongest amongst people older than 60 and people living in the South.

Of course this is all about race and lack of education. The Republican base: smart, informed.

Here is where you call me a contrarian. It’s not about race, and it’s not about lack of education. It’s about an ideology so staunch that one should call it a religion. It’s about willful blindness, and sheep.People across BOTH spectrums do not want to wander from the line. Bob, I run into this everywhere I go. Good people are following bad ideas, and dumb positions. That doesn’t make them racists or stupid. Humanity is one large, dumb blob. Individuals are what make our species so wonderful. But when the crowd roars, be they Conservative or Liberal, most of the time, they just sound crazy.

It amazes me that they assert that the proof of Obama’s birth is not sufficient for belief of his citizenship, but the complete lack of proof of his non-citizenship is sufficient for belief his presidency is unlawful. Am I making sense? And I would love a story about how many municipalities have destroyed original birth records and gone to digital copies. It would be great to be able to, by standards these fools have set, declare that we are uncertain of the country of birth of a significant number of Americans. And that probably includes me. Not being certain of the country of my nativity, I choose Rohan, ’cause the Rohirrim are hot as hell.

At least we can take some solace that only about 20% of people classify themselves as republicans anymore – so statistically speaking, 58% of 20% isn’t much. I have math-aphobia so I could never determine the actual numbers involved, but I’m guessing that the figure falls right in line with the accepted number of dyed in the wool reichwingnuts in the general population – and they’re the same ones out there buying robot insurance.
