Why Wait?

This is almost too crazy to be real:

Earlier this week, Florida State Senator Carey Baker (R) and State Representative Scott Plakon (R) introduced a state Constitutional amendment that, if adopted, would prevent Floridians from enrolling in any federal health care legislation. The language of House Joint Resolution 37 states.

Crazy Rick Perry of Texas also threatened to do something similar.

Hey, I have an idea. Why wait for the public option? If they’re really the ballsy wingnuts they claim to be, and they’re so opposed to government health insurance, why not propose to ban those other federal healthcare programs: Medicare and the VA?

I’m sure that’d be very popular in Florida of all places.

Good point. Why anyone even listens to these crazies is beyond me. Have they all lost any sense of reason?

Of course, either bill won’t stand a chance in federal court. But that’s not the point! We stickin’ it to tha gummint!

I think that this is a misread of that bill. While it’s a bullsh!t bill that undercuts health care reform, what it does is say that nobody can MAKE people, by law or rule, sign up for health care insurance which is exactly what’s being discussed in the current legislation. I’ve read the bill and don’t find anything that prevents people from doing so if they choose to; it just stops any efforts to make it mandatory.

This is their back-up plan in action, their Defense of Marriage Act for health care reform. They know there’s a potential they could lose this thing, so they’re going to try to cripple it before it even becomes law. If health care reform is at all successful, look for more than a few states to give this a shot. It’ll be there spiteful little response to losing.

Is it possible for something to be so insane and so stupid that it goes beyond the realm in which it can be mocked. These people are seriously mentally challenged.

Someone in Congress needs to try this [YouTube link]

The U.S. Congressman from NY offers an amendment to repeal Medicare. All the Republicans vote NO – a vote FOR government run health care. Political Theater done right! Bravo to the honorable Anthony Weiner!
