Actual Loud Noises

Several months ago, I wrote about how the tea party movement and broader wingnuttia were merely engaged in making loud noises, rather than having a coherent or logical position on anything in the real world.

Yeah well, now it appears as if the tea party wingnuts have received marching orders to infiltrate Democratic town hall meetings and literally make loud noises to disrupt and shut down the event. Here are some tips from an official strategy memo:

– Be Disruptive Early And Often: “You need to rock-the-boat early in the Rep’s presentation, Watch for an opportunity to yell out and challenge the Rep’s statements early.”

– Try To “Rattle Him,” Not Have An Intelligent Debate: “The goal is to rattle him, get him off his prepared script and agenda. If he says something outrageous, stand up and shout out and sit right back down. Look for these opportunities before he even takes questions.”

Adding… Remember when tea party fanatic Michelle Malkin used to ridicule Code Pink? Oh Malkin, you crazy hypocrite.

“not have an intelligent debate”Well that goes without saying, since they aren’t even capable of doing that.

You know, now that I consider it, this is not 2000 when right-wing crazies did a similar thing, having campaign workers and supporters disrupt the recount in Florida. They could pretty much operate in secret. We’re far better informed, thanks to the internets, than we were then. We knew this was going to happen almost as soon as the emails were sent out with marching orders. Their actions are being recorded and talked about almost instantly. People know what’s going on, that these aren’t actually constituents in some cases, but carpetbaggers come to tell them how things are going to go in their district. Locals wont tolerate that.I have a feeling this is going to blow up in their faces.

Nano, I hope you’re right – the word is out that they’re planning this. Today Randi Rhodes suggested that people need ID to prove they’re from the congresscritter’s district before they get in to any town hall meeting. That is not a bad idea.

People, we need to organize a counter response to this. And I don’t mean “make more loud noises”.Go to your local congressperson’s next town hall and bring your video camera. That’s all you need to do.
