Cheney and the ‘No Attacks Mythology’

Here’s Dick Cheney on Fox News Sunday:

I guess the other thing that offends the hell out of me, frankly, Chris, is we had a track record now of eight years of defending the nation against any further mass casualty attacks from Al Qaida.

The approach of the Obama administration should be to come to those people who were involved in that policy and say, “How did you do it? What were the keys to keeping this country safe over that period of time?”

You know which other two-term administrations had “eight year track records defending the nation against any further mass casualty attacks from Al Qaida?”

All of them.

Every two-term administration ever can boast the same thing.

And they achieved it without selling out our values and breaking international law. Sorry, Dick, but you’re a liar, a coward and a war criminal.

…(you) come to those people who were involved in that policy and say, “How did you do it? What were the keys to keeping this country safe over that period of time?”

Admittedly, I am not as well read on these matters as I could be, but it seems that I have seen more than one account stipulating that pertinent officials from the exiting Clinton administration approached the incoming Bush team members to apprise them of the activities, suspected or otherwise, of Al Qaeda, with strong recommendations as to what courses of action should be taken to address and possibly neutralize their threat. These overtures were disregarded and ignored. I recall reading in one account that the Bush people were more interested in missile defense systems for eastern Europe.Cheney’s a pig. If an actual journalist were conducting this interview, Cheney wouldn’t get out a statement like the one above unchallenged.

What the worst is I see NO ONE from the left coming on and calling the Dick a liar, a coward and a war criminal. No one challenges him and his daughter. Sam Donaldson did confront old Lizzie on This Week.So does anyone wonder why the disgraced minority is running the show? He prances around lying and sneering and accusing the Obama administration of everything and we are……not around it seems. Rachel,, Keith and Ed will probably talk about it but they are preaching to the choir.

And on Morning Meeting they are having a “Cheney aid” on to discuss it. How about an Obama “aid”?Good Lord.

    Sorry aide.

If you’ll notice, the crazy Cheney rhetoric has also morphed from “keeping the country safe since 9/11″ to “keeping the country safe the for the last eight years.” Uh… no, douchebag. We were hit under your watch. No other administration can make that dubious claim. Why on earth would Obama want advice from the only administration in the nation’s history that fell asleep at the switch while vacationing in Crawford, TX?

I was dreading this. I knew that the release of that report and the news that there were going to be investigations would bring those two up outta their holes again. They would have had more coverage but we had the loss of Ted Kennedy to televise.I’m thinking their newest attack on the administration will be short lived though. Think about it. They’re trying to make the case that they love America more than everyone else, yet they’ve been completely absent from the health care debate. In fact, it drove them back into their coffins because they’re one-trick-foreign policy wonders and have no interest in domestic policy that doesn’t include authoritarian rule.Liz Cheney’s bullshit power is fading, too. She tried the usual “the law is not clear on that” and “waterboarding is not torture” lines again onSunday and really got no traction. It’s just that their routine is becoming too obvious through it’s continued use. He goes on FOX for a comfy sympathetic interview, creating a shitstorm, then she goes on the regular unsympathetic-to-Dick circuit to follow up and spread lies to people Dick wouldn’t give the time of day to. I think their collective death stars are fading.

exactly Carland thats how they do it, the whisper gamelie 20x, then give it a slight spin, repeat 20 more times, spin again

Here is a really good argument about the chronology of the capture and torture of Abu Zubaydah. It blows the Cheney talking points out of the water.http://progressnotcongress.org/?p=2737

I have kept the nation safe every Monday for the last 8 years. You see, every Monday I wear black socks, and every time I wear them, we do not get attacked by al qaeda.

  • keithalso

Eight years of defending against Al Qaeda? With no Attacks? I guess he forgot about that 09.11.01 incident.

All the MSM outlets are essentially backing teh dick™ in his torture is effective lie :( The wife wanted to watch CBS news tonight for something, and the report was on the escalating war of words between cheney and Obama. Conclusion: the CIA IG report sorta backs dick; NBC was much more direct last week in saying the same, but they closed by quoting rice and powell as saying investigating the use of torture would be bad for teh merka.

I just sit back and wonder if I should just throw something at that bright screen of managed words. This thing called TV is just good old-fashioned brainwashing. Look at who owns this crap.Thank god for the internet. I wish even the dumb fucks knew how to use it… and read.
