Describe This Protester

This is one of the far-right anti-healthcare protesters who shouted “incomprehensible” loud noises at a town hall held by Rep. Steve Kagen (D-WI):

Without insulting the guy, here’s how I would describe him. He’s clearly either the recipient of Veteran’s Administration healthcare (note the USMC cap) or Medicare or both. Both of which are single-payer “socialized” healthcare programs run by the government. And I seriously doubt this old misguided man would ever give up his socialized healthcare.

Shameful.

    Bob, I agree with your description, including the “misguided” part, but let me go out on a limb here.I’m going to guess that were one to have a conversation with him, he’d deny that there was any socialism involved. He’d argue that he had earned his VA benefits by his service to the country and his Medicare benefits by paying his taxes. He has no earthly idea that other people are supporting him, has no clue how these programs are funded, he thinks he’s simply getting back what he’s paid in over the years. It’s kind of like the Social Security delusion (“Why should I pay for other people’s retirement? I want *MY* money to invest the way I want!”).He clearly hasn’t thought any of this through, and probably has no interest in doing so. He knows what he knows, reinforced by what he hears from Fox News and reads in mailers from the Republican Party.I actually feel sorry for him.That said, I feel sorrier for the rest of us, because people like him are going to stand in the way of anything getting better because of what they’ve been told (over and over and over…). We need to co-opt people like this if any meaningful change is going to happen.Alas, I don’t know how to do that.Sincere apologies for the long-winded rant. I’ll go sit in the corner quietly now.

    so son studies film- he has noticed that the same people are showing up in the videos- Keep Filming people- I think we will be able to prove down the road that they are paid Trolls…as usual…We have to strategize what to do to fight back:Here are my suggestions:(1) IF this kind of thing erupts where you are sitting at a meeting- MOVE do not even sit quietly by them- moving is a way of isolating them and their fury.(2) if you go with a group – organize yourselves to shout back”Healthcare for ALL” and drown them out ( it worked at the Notre Dame Obama speech).(3) The Organizers have to start Starting with a Witness part where real people tell their stories- it will Shame some of this Activity..(4) get Young people involved and college students…we need to get stronger Dem Crowds, and we need Someone to monitor the Parking lots and get footage or photos of Where they are from- and is there a Bus.(5) get photos and video- to also prove the Bus Theory…but also to identify them- in case they are paid operatives.(6) Organize..that means take printed materials and hand them out- if there are people are refusing to take materials then you also KNOW WHo are the trouble makers ahead of time- you can move people away from them….(7) carry photos of people you know and love that don’t have insurance.(8) My 70 year old retired school teacher neighbor ( who is also black and wanted to know WHY all the videos show white nutjobs- and I had no answer) anyways she is going to carry her Bible and also ask them to their face- Are you really a Christian ? ( that is her plan)..brave lady…so those are some of my ideas….cuz folks..these idiots are not going away.. we need a plan..

    You cant make assumptions about him based on his costume, which is what it may be. He may be a tribal agent provocateur, or he could sit on some corporate board. His costume served it’s purpose.
