Keep Your Government Hands Off My Medicare

Ezra Klein:

But taken as a whole, the attitudes seniors express on health care are arguably the greatest vote of confidence anyone has offered reform. Seniors live in America’s version of Canada. They have single-payer health care. And they love it. They love it so much that they’ve got the chairman of the RNC swearing to protect it.

And according to the latest polls, seniors are the least enthused about healthcare reform. Clearly because their system is excellent and they know it, so they don’t want any young black whippersnappers messing with it. Consequently, they’re kneejerking into this ass backwards Republican contradiction: Medicare rules, but socialism sucks.

Adding… I’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating. Whenever you hear a wingnut or a senior citizen suggest that seniors have earned their Medicare, your reply ought to be: So not only is socialism acceptable, but socialism is also a reward for a job well done. Good to know.

Don’t forget either that folks like me can become eligible for Medicare due to disability!I don’t understand the attitude of these retirees toward reform. It’s like they believe that only they are entitled. It really boils down to pure ass selfishness! It’s the “I’ve got mine, eff the rest of you” attitude. And it’s very, very stupid.

Exactly! What the fuck do seniors think all of us are working towards right now? It could be argured that since we make more money now when employed than they did that we should get a bigger piece of the program we’re paying into then they did? Also, that asshole George Will mentioned on This Week today that Obama is losing seniors in this healthcare debate. Some “reporter”, like Stephanopoulos should have told this dick that OBAMA LOST THE SENIORS VOTE BY 8 POINTS! You don’t lose what you never had. This will sound harsh but, I don’t give a shit….FUCK SENIORS! These are people who are either too stupid or selfish to give a shit about us. The feeling should be mutual!

The health care debate, particularly the paradoxical views of seniors, is a perfect illustration of what anthropologists call the “principle of limited good.” Essentially, this is a deep-seated, almost instinctive belief that there is only a limited supply of “good” in the universe, and that if someone thrives and benefits, then someone else must suffer (and vice versa).Seniors, rich people, and people lucky enough to have good insurance plans are happy with what they have, so they figure that they will suffer if other people get health insurance. They can’t articulate why because this isn’t based on anything rational. They just can’t get their heads around the idea that this will benefit everyone.Even if their coverage doesn’t change at all, they will feel diminished and less “special” if everyone gets good health insurance. This is why you have people ranting that they “earned” whatever coverage they have. They don’t want everyone to have what makes them feel special, unique, and deserving.

Do these SENIORS realize that the working people NOW are paying THEIR medicaid/care that they are receiving by OUR money going into the federal till? This thing is getting way beyond the ridiculous. Mostly thanks to the media.I continue to wait patiently for the WH to get serious and start kicking some Blue Dog ass. And some rethugs ass to for all their lying every second of every day on TV. And while they’re at it, some media ass on how thry’ve been covering this. I’m sick of this shit.

Do these SENIORS realize that the working people NOW are paying THEIR medicaid/care that they are receiving by OUR money going into the federal till?Yes. Yes, they do. Most of them spent their adult lives paying into the system for those who went before them. That’s how the system works.

It could be argured that since we make more money now when employed than they did that we should get a bigger piece of the program we’re paying into then they did? That’s the way it has always worked and yes you will. Your money is not special because you get more of it any more than their money is special because it went in first. The base amount paid is adjusted for inflation. They worked just as hard for their $3 an hour as you do for your $20 (or whatever). This particular attitude is starting to echo that of the seniors who aren’t going with the program.
