Mine! Mine!

New CNN healthcare poll:

“Obama’s plan is most popular among younger Americans and least popular among senior citizens,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. “A majority of Americans over the age of 50 oppose Obama’s plan; a majority of those under 50 support it.”

My hunch is that ultimately older Americans aren’t so much greedy as they are worried that if their very inexpensive single-payer healthcare is spread around, it will cease to be so excellent. Plus they’ve been tricked into believing all this euthanasia silliness.

Now we just need a commercial with a few cute kids addressing grandma and grandpa saying, “You have your single-payer, government health care called Medicare. Why don’t you want me to have that too, gammy?” Or have a young mom watching the kids play in the yard saying, “My folks’ health is taken care of by Medicare. Thankfully, the government sees to that. But what about me and my kids? If something happened, I don’t know what I’d do (look wistful, fade to black, sound of kids playing, informative text of some sort). We libs are always too logical and too information bound. We need to be more cornball emotional. Sure we can roll our eyes at it, but we’re not the ones needing to be convinced.

I’m in my 50s and I don’t oppose it, and neither do any of my friends of the same age. I’m not sure why the false report: is the pollster protecting 65+ from being singled out? Because the opposition starts at age 65. Also, why no press about the Insurcos negotiating (read bribing) for those age 50-65 to pay five times the rates as those 18-50? Can you say age discrimiantion?
