Quote of the Day

“So the next time you hear someone warning against a “government takeover” of our health care system, or that the creation of a public health insurance option would send us down the “slippery slope toward socialism,” know that someone like I used to be wrote those terms, knowing it might turn many of the very people who would benefit most from meaningful reform into unwitting spokespeople for the industry.” —Wendell Potter, former Vice President of Corporate Communications at CIGNA

Potter makes the broader point that even if some of the town hall screamers aren’t directly health insurance shills, they’re repeating talking points fed to shills by the health insurance industry.

Bob: I like the talking points provided by Anthony Weiner this morning on Scarborough’s show. What are we, as a society, getting for the insurance companies piece of the pie? Why is the director of Medicare paid $150,000 yet the guy in charge of United Healthcare (my insurer) is getting about $14 million for doing the same job? How does Wal-Mart sell prescriptions for $4? These are all fantastic arguments to combat the Republican talking points against healthcare. We should be celebrating this congressman.

without a viable press–Democracy is dead. The GOP is not floating distortions–They are advancing bold faced lies. Unless the media takes a stand, and dispenses with this D’s say ‘X’, R’s say ‘Y,’ our Democracy is in real trouble–we’ve already seen how they trumpeted the invasion of Iraq, and that was juts the tip of the ice berg. If this issue were covered in a fact based world, it would be a slam dunk–

Roxsteady: I was standing in the middle of the floor clapping and yelling like an idiot. My goodness, this man did wonders for my psyche this morning. The dems are driving me nuts! He kicked the dog doo-doo outta Joe.

Yes, JB!!–the media is holding all the cards here and they know they all did better when the crazies were in power and the rest of us were bitching. Now, only Fox is thriving, so they’re all going over to the dark side.
