The Gun-Toting Wingnuts Are Organized

TPM exposed the warlord behind the multitude of gun-toting wingnuts who appeared at the president’s town hall meeting in Arizona:

Ernest Hancock, the online radio host who staged an interview with an assault rifle-wielding associate at the Obama event in Arizona yesterday — and was himself armed with a 9 millimeter pistol — was a vocal supporter and friend of right-wing anti-government militia members who were convicted of conspiracy and weapons charges in the 90s.

And…

Ernest Hancock, the online radio host who interviewed the man with the assault rifle outside yesterday’s Obama event in Arizona, today stated that the whole event was actually planned in advance. [...]

“Oh, it’s more planned than you think,” Hancock responded. He then let loose with a string of details, including how Hancock contacted the Phoenix police department days before the event and how he was partially motivated to do so because of the controversy surrounding William Kostric, the man armed with a gun outside of Obama’s town hall in New Hampshire last week.

By the way, this doesn’t go away when the congressional recess ends. These crazy bastards are going to multiply and emerge like cockroaches. And it doesn’t lead anywhere good.

This also does not go away after the healthcare reform debate is over. They will simply pick another subject to rally around. Right now its healthcare. When thats over, it could go back to illegal immigrants or taxes. It wont go away as long as we have a democractic president, and espeically one that is black. Thats what this is really about. Completely irrational fear and prejudice.

This is exactly what a lot of the gun “rights” people wanted, to take the law (their definition of it) into their own hands.Think about places like my state where carrying CONCEALED weapons is legal.

I hate to say it, but if you can’t beat ‘em…Who will organize 2nd Amendment, gun-toting Democrats? We know there are more than just a few. Hell, even Michael Moore was, and maybe still is, an NRA member. I would love to see a half a dozen Obama supporters with signs and firearms strapped to their sides to intimidate the intimidaters.

This is ugly. My sense of the gun nuts is that they stay hidden if they get a sense that the public is disgusted with them (i.e. after OKC), and they emerge when they feel like there’s an opening or any vague encouragement to come out. Well, they’ve been practically beckoned out of their holes by the VRWC, and they won’t shrink until one of them acts out and turns the world against them again. Fuck Fox, rethugs, and all of their pathetic enablers for creating this tinderbox. I sincerely hope that someone is catologuing the calls to violence so when it happens people like Grassley and Beck and Palin can be publicly shamed for their work.

Is this the same group of folks that got so pissed off when Obama talked about people clinging to guns and religion?

There were actually more Obama supporters than protesters braving the heat for several hours on Monday in Phoenix. The general consensus around here is that those gun-toters make Arizona look bad and might even hurt tourism. We’ve been contending with the drop-off in tourism just south of the border due to gun wars so we’re pretty sensitive to this kind of whackery. Not surprised the militias are behind this as they came here in droves from places like Idaho to act as mercenaries at the border.

We had a town hall meeting here in Redding, CA last night with our Rethug rep Wally Herger. No guns present, but a man did stand up and proclaim himself (to the 2,100 people present) that he is a “proud right wing terrorist” to rousing applause. If that isn’t fucking frightening as hell I don’t know what is.So not only are we fighting a “war on terror” abroad, but apparently there’ll be one in the US as well.

“…but a man did stand up and proclaim himself (to the 2,100 people present) that he is a ‘proud right wing terrorist’ to rousing applause.”Well good for him. He is now eligible for a free stay at Guantanamo.

@ eve:That’s kinda what I was thinking.Don’t I owe it to America to call Homeland Security and let them know there’s a homegrown terrorist amongst us?

yes, please call them — or call the Southern Poverty Law Center. They track this stuff.Prior to the election there was a troll on one site I visited who kept making threats against Obama. For days threat after threat. I looked online and found a local number for the FBI and talked to an agent. I told him I realized it could just be some smart ass kid but I had no way to know. He said they would check it out. I was hesitant to call but he seemed to think it was a reasonable call.
