White House vs. Max Baucus

Apparently Baucus delivered his Mafiacare Plan to K Street before he delivered it to the White House. Robert Gibbs wasn’t happy about this:

“[W]e’ve seen what we’ve read in the paper, but I do not believe that we’ve seen paper on the plan… I was told that — that K Street had a copy of the Baucus plan, meaning, not surprisingly, the special interests have gotten a copy of the plan that I understand was given to committee members today.”

Wow. “Not surprisingly?” Gibbs doesn’t say anything like this unless he means it. It’s not an “eff you, senator” but it’s meant to nail Baucus’ connection to lobbyists. The words “special interests” are political code for “thieving douchebags.”

Hopefully this is a signal that after the speech tonight, everyone who does not support the public option will be painted as whores for the insurance companies. Perhaps now they’ll report what guys like Bob and Lee have been reporting on for months – the large somes of cash being given to these assholes. They should be pitted as being against real reform for the American people. I agree with Lee that Obama should never have gotten on the stage in that Montana townhall and praised Baucus. The 55% disapproval rating by the people of his state on the way he’s handeled this should be enough to push his ass out of office in 2012 if we don’t get a public option – without triggers! Obama should champion Ted Kennedy’s bill and dare anyone in his party to vote against it. If he does this right, they will take all the blame and will be primaried out of office in 2010!

Can we please change the rules for who gets appointed to committee?

  • Jan

Well gee WHIZ think the wh is sick of being kicked in the teeth and will start fighting back? But as usual, there was Harry Reid yesterday saying he wants a bi partisan bill but by golly I support a public option.hell.

I don’t think we can primary them all out of office, especially Baucus, but maybe we can reduce their influence in Congress. Make it clear to them that they can pull whatever bullshit they want in committee, but that their version wont make it into the final bill that goes to the President’s desk.I don’t know. That’s just a shot in the dark. These guys are pretty entrenched and flush with cash from lobbyists. They know how to work the system so that they never lose influence or power and ridding the Party of them will be difficult. Here’s hoping these assholes get their tits hammered tonight.

Exactly because it’s not always going to be about the money. If they screw this up they will be remembered for that and hopefully no amount of money will make the voters forget that! At least that’s my hope. It would actually be good if we could pick up a few more seats. This would render them useless and yes, the rest of the caucus’ can smack down any legislation put forward by these idots! They can take legislation and strip out anything the Blue Dogs put in! They’ll be nothing more than figure heads for their states!

So am I wrong to assume that Barack Obama basically gave Max Baucus just enough rope to hang himself with? Because talk about a great jumping point for tonight’s speech:”Hey, I tried to trust the Finance Committee and bipartisanship, and this is the what they handed me. Now, I’m tired of these motherfucking Blue Dogs on this motherfucking bill. So go ahead and keep the wallet. It’s yours. But the briefcase’s coming with me.”Okay, I sort of trailed off there.

Now, I’m tired of these motherfucking Blue Dogs on this motherfucking bill. So go ahead and keep the walletlmao. I WISH he’d say that. and that motherfucker Baucus can kiss my ass.Perfect.

Redmond it almost seems as if it’s been the plan all along to let them all hang themselves. Baucus, the Blue Dogs, the Republican wingnuttia. But what comes next? After hearing O’ Donnell talk last night, I have a feeling we’ll be cursing the names of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid once it’s all said and done, just as we’ve been doing since 2006.I don’t know. I’m getting a little spooked this close to tonight’s speech. I think the prez can give a very firm and clear speech about the public option, but we still have to get that herd of cats in Congress moving in the right direction.ARG!

Baucus is now saying that this thing will drop week after next. Next week the mark will be released, week after they go to markup. It’s still limited to his petulant little gang of six. He’s still talking about releasing a bill that will pass both committee and the Senate. He’s a fucking douchebag.

So, the president and his pals hit all the morning shows today saying that we need choice, competition and controlled costs, and that the public option is the best way to do that. The president did not draw a veto line in the sand, and rightly so.And yet there’s this paragraph in Mike Allen’s Politico article: “But White House officials privately say they know they don’t have the votes in the Senate for a public option. It is clear Obama will gladly compromise on this point, hence the loose language in the speech, allowing for future horse trading.”Really, Mike? “Gladly”? Is that the “WH officials” word or yours? Because you certainly seem to be implying that it comes direct from the WH. And yet, I don’t think so. If you ever wonder where people get the idea that Obama is just dying to get rid of the public option, or that there are death panels, or that he wants to indoctrinate children, look no further than paragraphs like that from so-called journalists.http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/26907_Page2.html#ixzz0Qd7S4YRl

What Gibbs said was definitely refreshing and gives me hope, again, that the President’s plan has been to let Congress hang itself all along. I would LOVE to hear Pres. Obama say tonight ‘I was told to avoid mistakes made in the past where Congress was not consulted. So I consulted Congress and look at the crapola they delivered. Now here’s a REAL plan that can work….’
