Finance Bill Passes

And healthcare reform makes it out of Finance. 14-9 with President Snowe voting for the bill.

Yes, the bill sucks. But yes, this is still very historic.

The next step will be to combine it with the HELP bill. This is when we’ll know how important the public option — and passing healthcare reform at all — is to the Senate. At this point, we know we have around 51 votes for healthcare reform with the public option. The deciding factor for the public option will be whether we have 60 to defeat the Republican filibuster or if doofs like Conrad will vote with the Republicans on cloture.

Im glad the bill is finally out of the damned finance committee.

If you’ll tune in to MSNBC you’ll see that the press is only intrested in interviewing President Snowe. The Dems are not even on their radar!

I think he was being snarky – ‘President Snowe’ is how she is referred to by a lot of the blogosphere these days, as it seems to be her sensibilities that are being catered to in regards to HCR, at least in that committee.Speaking of Snowe, I’m wondering what to make of her vote at this point. It wasn’t needed to get the bill out of committee, and I hope I’m just being paranoid at this point in thinking that this is some kind of portent in regards to the final bill (i.e. – no public option).

speaking of the public option, here’s some good news. Some blue dogs are now saying the public option is crucial to keeping costs down. Duh…http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-jane-harman/why-were-breaking-with-th_b_318743.html

I really do not understand how any Dem can filibuster this without serious consequences from Harry Reid–and if Reid can’t whip it, he must go the very next day from the leadership.

Now the fun begins. And all we have to rely on is Harry Reid? hell.Shoot me please.Snowe’s career is effectively over.

I don’t know why Snowe still insists on being a republican. She should just pull a Jim Jeffords an go independent, caucusing with the democrats. I’m sure it won’t hurt her standing among Mainers. We’ll treat her better than the republicans do.
