Halperin Doesn’t Disappoint

This evening on the Ed Show, Mark Halperin repeated the same crap that’s been an ongoing blight on both the establishment press, as well as the Democratic Party. It goes like this: Anything that might cause the Republicans to flip their shit must be abandoned. In this case, the president shouldn’t accept the Nobel Prize because Republicans are outraged.

This is the same disease of acquiescence that forces Democratic members of Congress to drop coverage for voluntary end-of-life consultations from healthcare legislation as soon as the Republicans make a pee-pee dance about it.

Today, if the president hadn’t won, the Republicans would’ve been overjoyed at the news. Then they would’ve proceeded to yank another disingenuous, contradictory attack against the president out of their fat asses — perhaps he’s wearing too many red ties. Perhaps one of his advisers said something controversial in 1982. Perhaps they twist some line in HR 3200 into an accusation that the Democrats want to pay for birth control pills for hobbits.

Anyway, this is exactly what I expected from Mark Halperin. And his colleagues at Time have done a fantastic job today of writing similarly ridiculous headlines:

Why Winning the Nobel Peace Prize Could Hurt Obama

Obama’s Nobel: The Last Thing He Needs

Then, eject! Eject! The Republicans will attack so the president must cave!

Pathetic.

BobYou put into words exactly what I was thinking as I was reading all the back and forth on the Cesca blogs today….I do not understand labeling something as bad just because the republicans will mock it/ lie about it/ given a voice on all media outlets to b itch about it. If Obama does it/ says it/ thinks it – according to republicans it is socialist/ unpatriotic/ bad/ death panelish/ uppity….whatever!! We cannot accept that we have to be below status quo so we do not upset them. The media allows this nonsense to happen; they give the soundbites…they are an embarassment. It is nice to see outside the US, they see Obama as representing many positives; they see him as hope for all of our futures; they believe he is in a position to create change. They see the US as having the potential to re-route the course after 8 ugly years. How is this bad? I am proud. And, I am unabashedly happy. I believe this says a lot about how we are viewed in the world. And, it shows, outside are loony town halls and brain dead media (save a rare few exceptions) Obama is seen in such a positive light. I am with Bob and Lee on this one.

And, this just came in Michael Moore’s newsletter (as his P.S.)P.S. Your opposition has spent the morning attacking you for bringing such good will to this country. Why do they hate America so much? I get the feeling that if you found the cure for cancer this afternoon they’d be denouncing you for destroying free enterprise because cancer centers would have to close. There are those who say you’ve done nothing yet to deserve this award. As far as I’m concerned, the very fact that you’ve offered to walk into the minefield of hate and try to undo the irreparable damage the last president did is not only appreciated by me and millions of others, it is also an act of true bravery. That’s why you got the prize. The whole world is depending on the U.S. — and you — to literally save this planet. Let’s not let them down.

@LKContinue being proud and unabashedly happy, showing any deference to the Repubs will get us no where. Halperin is a prime example of how manipulative and biased the media is. And let’s be fair, that’s on both sides.I’m with you and am extremely proud of our President and the direction we’re heading in. He’s laying the groundwork for many things down the pipeline, for many it may not be enough or fast enough, but major change doesn’t happen overnight.Continue being patient and supportive and do what I’ve started doing rather vehemently, CALL OUT the fucktwits who you come across from day to day. Give them an argument, they’re not used to opposition noise. Laugh at their inconsistencies and lies, roll your eyes at their inaccuracies and hate. It works. They think twice before spewing anti Obama rhetoric around me. If more people do that, maybe they’ll shut up altogether. One can only hope.

Been reading the crap off & on today and the same thought occurred to me earlier but I didn’t have a chance to write it down: As usual, the purported conservatives control the discussion. It’s what they’re good at. And the MSM feels compelled to report “all sides” no matter how fucking crazy or stupid the statements.

PS, they know they can count on many on the left to look for the dark cloud, too. Bunch of sad sacks.

I hope the Yankees don’t win the World Series this year. I have been a Yankees fan for 52 years, but I know a lot of people hate them. I’m afraid if they win, people will hate them even more, so I hope they lose.
