Narcissism?

You know what’s really narcissistic? A person believing they should be President of the United States. Being president requires a massive ego, as does deciding to run in the first place.

Suddenly for Ambinder and Kaus, presidents have to be — what? — self-loathing and shy? Another example of how a hack somewhere makes up a meme out of thin air and suddenly it’s considered “very serious” to repeat it.

Yes, like all presidents, President Obama has an ego, but I think he does a fair job at remaining humble, or at least showing some humility while also giving the appearance of dignified self-confidence. If you recall, the previous guy would practically unzip and toss his nards onto the podium and dare the press to attack him for it. “No follow-ups on the nards! Eh-eh-eh!” That’s narcissism run amok.

The email I got today… Far from being too full of himself:Dear —-This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I’d been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize — men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace. But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it’s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes. That is why I’ve said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won’t all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it’s recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone. This award — and the call to action that comes with it — does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better. So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we’ve begun together. I’m grateful that you’ve stood with me thus far, and I’m honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.Thank you,President Barack Obama——————————-Wow… a real president… who is actually presidential. What a breath of fresh air after the stink of BushCo.

  • jonah barcelona

    teleprompted …

  • jonah barcelona

    1. Did anyone know he was being considered?2.He even admits that he DOESN’T deserve it. And yet – he takes the award. A real man would give it back until he felt he deserved it. Humble thing to do – turn it down until he hopes to accomplish what he wants to – ego city.3. President Obama was talking about sending out more troups today – the same day he won the award. Ironic huh?4. Aren’t there more deserving winners? How about the TROOPS that fight every day of their lives for peace? For us.What about the families that support them? They should have won and to me they do.Disgusting.

  • Curly Lasagna

Actually, the thought of Bush’s nards makes me want to poke out my mind’s eye………….

  • jonah barcelona

Big_Ben your breath of fresh air is the smell of ass, obviously

  • Mather Z

“teleprompted …”JESUS CHRIST! It’s a WRITTEN DOCUMENT! Do you think he’s reading off a goddamned teleprompter while WRITING, moron? And think about this: EVERYONE on Fox News is reading off a teleprompter. EVERY goddamned one. You sit there and you think about how when they mock your President’s use of a teleprompter, they’re reading THAT off a teleprompter. Not that that’s a bad thing. Responsible people who want to convey a message when speaking publicly have ALWAYS used notes. You think Cicero (I’ll give you a moment to look him up) made up all his stuff on the spot? And in the televised era, goddamned EVERYONE enters those notes into an electronic form that gets projected on a screen so they can keep “eye contact” with the goddamned camera.I didn’t think you were a moron when you started posting here – I thought you were wrong, but that’s not the same thing. I was prepared for an honest discussion with you. But then you brought up the dumbest, most completely pointlessly goddamn made-up criticism of anyone ever, and now I know you’re a moron.Goddamn.

  • jonah barcelona

accomplishing things makes one feel very good.It is a natural high.Perhaps liberal should try it sometime.

  • jonah barcelona

let’s analyze this liberal statement”"I didn’t think you were a moron when you started posting here – I thought you were wrong, but that’s not the same thing. jonah barcelona wroteaccomplishing things makes one feel very good.It is a natural high.Perhaps liberal should try it sometime.I believe we did. He won the Nobel Peace Prize today. In regards to this troll, isn’t it time that he receive a little attention from an admin?

  • ceu

seriously? you want a list of liberal accomplishments? Shall we start with the founding of the United States? ‘Cause those revered forefathers? they were LIBERALS!Do you eat safe food? Drink safe water? Work in a safe environment? Make at least minimum wage? Know anyone who receives Medicare or Social Security? Know anyone who has ever collected unemployment? Had money in a bank protected by the FDIC?Thank a liberal!

  • Mather Z

“let’s analyze this liberal statement”It’s liberal to give someone the benefit of the doubt until it is proven that they’re too stupid to continue doing so? I guess it is.Is it conservative to (twice!) promise to analyze a statement, then never analyze it? Apparently so.

  • jonah barcelona

Thank a capitalist for providing the engine for you all to feed off of.

  • Mather Z

“Thank a capitalist for providing the engine for you all to feed off of.”Liberals can’t be capitalists? Since when?

  • jonah barcelona

Liberals feed off of capitalists.Pretty much fact.

  • Mather Z

“Liberals feed off of capitalists.”What does that even mean? Are we talking, like, body shots?

  • jonah barcelona

body shots?only a liberal would think that.

  • Mather Z

You’re the one talking about people feeding off of each other. Unless you’re promoting cannibalism (or maybe zombie-ism).Answer my questions, coward!

  • Alex00

Ok whatever happened to blocking trolls. He’s bring up the teleprompter bit for christsakes.

Body Shots, indeed! Mather Z, you’re awesome (and I mean that)! I’m really enjoying your repartee with “Senor Troll,” but you know what happens when you feed strays… they’ll never leave.

  • ceu

well…the troops don’t qualify for the prize under the guidelines set forth in Alfred Nobel’s will.

  • Mather Z

Quit copying-and-pasting your own drivel, Jonah, and answer my questions. Unless, of course, you can’t.I think you can’t because you just read the teabaggers’ protest signs and repeat them here, a practice that doesn’t lend itself well to insight or discussion.

  • kansasdem

Make a comparison:(a)Press coverage of Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.(b)Press coverage of the bombing of Bagdad.Example (a) earns disdain while example (b) earns high praise and even more than a few chuckles.Remind me again why I’m supposed to be proud to be an American.

jonah barcelona = fail-trollAll you do is prove what others think about the fringe-right. • Allonfla

Anyone who brings up the teleprompter as a criticism of the President should be immediately disqualified from grown up conversations. It is such a ridiculous and pathetic come back.
