Following yesterday's red alert:
The White House issued a statement Sunday evening reaffirming its commitment to a public option for insurance coverage and called reports that the president and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid were pursuing different strategies, "absolutely false."
False!
Again, don't believe anonymous quotes on this subject. Seriously, it's becoming a blight and we're being yanked around.
Adding... Jonathan Cohn posted a summary of what's happening. It's likely that the president was skeptical of Reid's ability to get 60 votes for cloture on the opt-out -- it sounds like the president has as much confidence in Reid as we do. But to interpret this as being any sort of real support for a trigger is nonsense.
