So Close…

Word is that the House is only “a few” votes shy of being able to pass a Medicare-based “robust” public option. And the deadline for the whip count is tonight.

[Speaker Pelosi] went on to say that the few remaining undecideds – or undeclareds – needed to let Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) know by Wednesday where they stand. [...]

The caucus will meet again Wednesday evening to retake the Democratic temperature. If the 218 votes are there, the party will plow forward and go to conference committee negotiations with a strong hand.

This is the best possible news from the House going into the conference committee. If only Harry Reid had Nancy Pelosi’s — errrrmm — guts.

Adding… It’s eight votes, according to Ryan Grim.

Sometimes I think I might try to reach through the tv and choke Harry ‘Droopy Dog’ Reid. The most ineffectual looking and doing person. He must have stumbled into his election win.

I’m surprised. I thought Pelosi had it in the bag. Wonder who are the hold outs. We need a list and begin on them.I’d bet my esteemed Congress critter is one of the “no” votes.

I can’t wait until we have another government monopoly! Go Public Option (?)

Sounds pretty promising!I e-mailed Sen. Reid (D-Jellyfish Nursery) to convey my dissapointment with his handling of this so far.. and to implore him to build his legacy on strong reform before it’s to late (for his legacy). Concluding that I would help his opponents if he doesn’t find a backbone, and soon.

My question is what happened to all of those “progressives” who said they would vote against a bill without a strong public option. I thought there were enough of them to make this successful.
