Sticking It to the Blue Dogs

This is extraordinarily smart politics:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will submit multiple versions of the House’s healthcare bill for cost estimates, she announced on Thursday.

The first proposal will include a “robust public option,” which would tie doctor reimbursement rates to that of Medicare plus five percent. The remaining two drafts submitted for the Congressional Budget Office’s consideration would include a public option based on “the negotiated rates that some in our caucus have supported and which was passed by the Energy and Commerce Committee,” the speaker explained during Thursday’s press briefing.

Obviously, this will offer proof positive that the a public insurance plan based on Medicare rates will generate a less expensive healthcare reform bill. Then we can sit back and watch the “fiscally conservative” Blue Dogs fall over themselves trying to explain their opposition to a clearly more responsible bill.

Go, Madam Speaker!

The facts have always been on the side of Healthcare reform and a robust public option. This is smart. I also love the “opt-out” idea as it will give the idiots a chance to see how this will work–Then they’ll be clamouring for it.

I didn’t think I would ever say this again… But great job, Mrs. Pelosi!

Nancy pissed me off yesterday when I read on FDL that she went to progressives and asked them to consider a watered down public option but, this news today is great. I also liked how she smacked them down for what they said about McCrystal needing to put her in her place. If you haven’t seen the video, trust me you will. It’s on MSNBC right now! Go Nancy! Kicked the blue dogs asses!

Also, be prepared for the next step in the political process:Republicans going on TV and claiming partisanship on the part of the CBO.We’ve already begun seeing evidence of this – today a Senator was being interviewed by Shep & started calling into question a whole bunch of the CBO’s assumptions in its analysis. Shep asked him whether the CBO is “wrong”…and the guy skirted the question. (Anybody else see this? For the life of me, I can’t remember which Senator it was…)Expect a full-on accusation of bias/partisanship just around the corner…maybe it’ll be triggered when Mrs. Pelosi gets back her estimates.
