Clock Touching

No more clock touching!

Just wanted to throw that out there. I just noticed that it’s only 5:39 p.m., it’s dark, and it feels much later than it really is.

So, hands off the clocks! Can we please change this obsolete rule?

How about we extend DST year round for everyone over 40? Or, just let me gain an hour every Fall. Fuck that losing an hour shit. If you need me, just call me yesterday.

OTOH, on Friday the kids were waiting at the bus stop & walking to school in the dark. Today, they could be seen by the drivers…

Daylight savings time saves energy. How much energy is debatable.

Come live in Arizona. We don’t change our clocks at all. We’re either on Pacific or Mountain time during the year. Unfortunately, we have the worst US Senators…

I’m old enough to remember 1973-74 and year-round daylight saving time. I also well remember the claims that carnage ensued, as helpless children were mowed down in droves because drivers couldn’t see the little darlins trudging to and from school in the dark.Turned out to be complete hooey (pedestrian injuries and fatalities actually went down that winter; there’s even evidence that year-round DST could be safer for pedestrians—those who love reading research papers might want to check out http://jpubhealth.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/reprint/27/4/316), but the chorus was loud and hysterical enough to frighten Congress into abandoning the experiment. The same thing would happen again, I fear, if we went to year-round DST again. Nice idea, though.

Let my comment above be fair warning to all: read what you type before clicking on “Post”… If anyone needs me, I’ll be over here in the corner, hanging my head in shame. (“The same thing would happen again, I fear, if we went to year-round DST again”? Good grief.)

I’ve never liked daylight savings time. Or, actually, I’d prefer if we just left spring forward alone. I like the sun going down at 8:20pm. While I live in New Jersey I dream of moving to Hawaii someday so that I can go to the beach after work.

Ceu, that just means that school starts way too fucking early.

Jane – absolutely agree. We lived up on a curvy dark road with no sidewalks & the kids waited for the bus to come at 6:50 when the sun was rising at about 7:20. If they missed the bus, they walked about 2 miles down the dark curvy road to school.alopecia – I’m not talking just about fatalities. I think it’s safe to say that most of us would prefer kids hanging out – walking, skipping, fooling around – in daylight as preferable since they are more VISIBLE. And since most of them don’t drive, they aren’t aware of how difficult it can be for drivers to see them. That aside, if the time change was dropped, we’d probably use standard time, just like we are now.

Ceu, your kids are grown, and I don’t have any. What the hell do we care? Bah. Give ‘em flashlights and reflective vests.
