Radiation Leak at Three Mile Island

Uh-oh.

THREE MILE ISLAND – November 22, 2009 (WPVI) — We are learning more this morning about a reported radiation leak at Three Mile Island. [...]

The NRC now says about 20 employees were treated for exposure following the incident at one of the reactors. Originally, there were reports that more 100 workers had to be decontaminated.

The cause of the leak is under investigation. The entire plant is shut down.

My house is practically equidistant between TMI and Limerick. Hooray.

Wow Bob! That sounds a little scary. I’m actually a bit bummed because of an article on TPM by David Kurtzhttp://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2009/11/where_does_this_leave_us.php#more?ref=fpblgI don’t understand how the Dems would think that we’re going to be happy with an even more watered down public option. Or that we’ll accept their notion that 3 or 4 senators could be the real majority in their 60 seat club? It’s not going to be pretty.

Patriot News is saying it’s a small leak contained to area that’s been shut down for maintenance since October:http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/11/small_radiation_leak_detected.htmlOf course I’ll believe that story until my kid morphs into a Pterodactyl. Which, I’m not gonna lie, would be kind of awesome.

At least that’s good news! Oh, and the Pterodactyl would be cool. The Sci Fi channel shows this Pterodactyl movie every now and then. It’s pretty campy and a little gory but, I love it. And the Chupacabra movie but, enough about my extensive social life.

@Bob, I’m horrified actually because my dad lives about a 20 minute drive from there. In fact, I’d better give him a call….

I had one kid go to college just outside Limerick. Was not happy first time I went there… And we lived close to Peach Bottom & the natives didn’t seem to worry much. They made jokes about the security guards sleeping on duty, etc.Ah, PA memories…good times.

Nice, Roxsteady. How compassionate. Bob (and others here) live within spitting distance of TMI and you hijack the thread being “bummed” with TPM and admiring some Sci Fi. Not so much as a “hope all is well” or “hold your breath, Bob”.BTW, Bob and others in PA: Hope all is well and holding your breath won’t work but it’s all I’ve got now.

” My ” senator , Lamar Alexander ( R- Tn ), sees building more nuclear power plants as our answer to energy independence. Maybe this will put a stop to his nonsense.

  • prcleburne

I’m sure you remember the chant of those who opposed the expansion of nuclear plants some years ago: ” Hell no, we wont glow.”

At the risk of sounding like Sarah Palin, I can see TMI from my office in Harrisburg. But in this case, it actually is true. The good news is, the leak does appear to be contained. Of course, that’s how the initial reports from the 1979 accident read.
