    I can’t stand Ron Paul. He’s sort of a modern day Ross Perot, with his over simplification of what it’s going to take to reverse all the damage done to this country by Republicans. Paul has the same strain of wingnut, gun toteing supporters that show up at these teabagger reach arounds. Forgive my narcissism but, “teabagger reach arounds”? I just cracked myself up. Anyway, these moombats are well suited to Paul’s bullshit platform.

    Thanks for that little factoid, Bob. I just pointed it out to a libertarian friend of mine with whom I have an ongoing argument regarding Peter Schiff, Ron Paul, etc.I eagerly await his response.

    If it was up to Ron Paul, abortion, a woman’s right to choose, would be a states issue and be immediately outlawed in several states. Ron Paul thinks abortion is murder.The separation of church and state would become a non-binding suggestion, left up to the states to decide how much church they’ll allow in their statiness. Utah could finally cut the crap and just go full blown Mormontown USA.He’d most definitely seek to repeal the 14th amendment because he doesn’t think babies born in America should be citizens because their parents come from Sweden….. Ha ha ha. Yeah right. I couldn’t keep it in. He really just means Mexicans shouldn’t be citizens if they’re born here. That’s part of his solution to mexican immigration. He also voted for the fence along the border.Ron Paul wants to return to the Gold Standard. This would also suggest monetary policy would be in the hands of the Michelle Bachmans of congress.Voted YES on protecting the Pledge of Allegiance. (This is an odd position for a “pro-liberty and sweet sweet freedom” kind of guy.)Voted YES to ban gay adoptions. Ron Paul doesn’t believe gays should be protected by hate crimes legislation. Supports DOMA and DADT.The environment? Ha ha ha. Sure he thinks we should cut off subsidies to oil and gas companies, but he also thinks we should open up the country to those same companies to do what they want in the back yards of America. Ron Paul thinks CO2 emissions(and any other harmful emmission)should be left to private corporations to decide– not the government.Ron Paul’s philosophy on the environment is quite literally a fast track to self-destruction left up to corporations to do what they think is best with the soil, air, and water– not the government.Ron Paul thinks the United Nations is a path to a New World Order infringing on American sovereignty.Healthcare? Ron Paul would replace Medicaid with volunteer pro-bono medical care and abolish federal Medicare entitlements leaving it to the states.In Ron Paul’s America, corporations are self-regulating masters of the universe. Privatization of Social Security, Education, FDA, on and on and on– with the government of, for, and by, the people acting as a hands-tied observer staying out of the way.Ron Paul’s voting record says of his position on civil rights: Rights belong only to individuals, not collective groups. (Dec 1987)Well, a corporation is a collective group. But according to Ron Paul, corporations’ rights actually supercede the rights of individuals in so many fantastical areas of commerce and production as it pertains to the environment, individual consumption, and shareholders’ rights, that this is ridiculously contradictory.In short, Ron Paul is a kook living in an era long passed. The Constitution, as a “living document” to him, is the death of America, despite what Thomas Jefferson said: “laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”Also, the Founding Fathers neglected to put the word “corporations” in the constitution for a reason.When you strip away the common ideals many share with him(I myself share many common ideals with Ron Paul)you begin to see a radical right winger with an old timey smile and demeanor.Ron Paul’s son will carry the same torch long after his father retires.
