Mighty quiet ’round these parts. Some (anonymous sources) might say too quiet.(Not me. I kind of dig peace and quiet.)

Sullivan was right. He brought us back from the brink. It’s been a really rough summer, but things are looking up (in spite of what the LARGE EMERGENCY OMGZ FONT says on HuffPo).I don’t want to be premature, or sound like the personality-cult W lovers, but I really think Obama will be regarded much in the same way as FDR. There. I said it. I went there. All fucking maudlin-like. Fifty years from now we’ll look back on his presidency all weepy-like just like the Greatest (non-racist) Generation does when they talk about FDR. If we come out of the next four (hopefully twelve) years with good HCR, a roaring economy (a real economy, not one based on trading shares of mythical financial instruments), and gays not only able to marry but pretty much allowed to move about the planet unmolested (and fewer other stuff packed into parentheses), I think BO will be seen as the best president since the Magna Carta.

You can’t imagine how much I hope you’re right, Nano. The problem, as I see it, is that Obama is a cautious centrist and these are times (and those are issues) that require a transformative figure. I have me doubts whether Obama can become one of those.Don’t get me wrong: I hope I’m wrong and that the man can step up, I just haven’t seen huge amounts of evidence for that. Yet. It’s early days, after all.(Hmm…”hope” seems to be the theme of this comment, dunnit?)

Maybe a victory with HCR will embiggen him, alopecia. Maybe with something huge under his belt (insert dirty joke here), he’ll start swinging for the fences.

When he says he’s just getting started – believe it.

Sully was tickled nearly to death a couple times there. Fun segment. The interview with Sir Harold Evans the following night was two gentlemen charming the living shit out of each other.

    Maybe, Nano, maybe.

I’m biting my tongue on the “cautious centrist” comment, to maintain the peace and quiet for jane.*bitinggggg*

Over all, I don’t mind that Obama is not nearly as liberal as I am. I disagree with some of his appointments and some of his policy ideas, but feel good about the fact that he is being thoughtful about his decisions. I don’t mind knowing that a large portion of the country disagrees with me, vehemently so, and I’m glad the president takes us all into consideration. Is that frustrating? Yes it is. The conservatives have gone off into a land of crazy I never imagined possible without being locked up and medicated and all the while they have a president giving them more weight than Bush ever imagined giving the left. Still, I appreciate his vision and his abilities, and I do believe he will make big changes–he’s already started. The health care debate has made me get all spazzy from time to time, but I’ve found a lot of comfort in this blog (from all angles I might add) and from making those constant phone calls to Congress. I believe we need to be making calls and emailing those on the far left as well and ask them to maintain perspective and try to work with the president. Not everyone gets everything they want as we all know. We’re never going to have a super liberal president who struts in and changes everything into some far left vision of a perfect America. Even if we did, the far left would still squabble about little disagreements.

Thank you Nano for your reasoned comments about our President (11:57 last night).I have always been of the opinion that Obama would be regarded by future generations as a great President that turned the country around… and was exactly the right person at the right time.
