Whoops!

The RNC employee health insurance plan, via Cigna, covers abortion.

According to several Cigna employees, the insurer offers its customers the opportunity to opt out of abortion coverage — and the RNC did not choose to opt out.

Why are Republicans helping to finance abortion services? After all, they’re paying into a funding pool that can be used to pay abortion doctors — for the last 18 years.

UPDATE: Not any more. Steele has opted out of the coverage. It occurs to me that perhaps we should’ve kept our mouths shut on this. For the sake of the pro-choice Republicans who might need such a procedure.

Steele opting out is actually the best thing that could have happened. Another kneejerk response from this nitwit who’ll have to explain to the pro-choice Republicans on he plan (c’mon, there’s got to be some) why he decided to fuck them over without asking. My guess is that he’ll secretly try to opt back in after this story blows over.

Adding… I wonder if there’s any way of finding out how often that service was utilized over the past 18 years?

I hesitate to bring this up, but all corporate insurance policies that cover abortion are subsidized by taxpayers because insurance is a tax deductible expense for companies.

    Steve Benen:

…the RNC is taking Republican money and giving it to an insurance company through premiums. That company will then use its pool of money to pay for abortion services, not for RNC employees, but for other customers. In other words, [despite opting out,] the Republican National Committee will still indirectly subsidize abortions, every time it writes a check to Cigna. And if the RNC disagrees with this reasoning, and believes the issue is “settled,” then the party has rejected the reasoning of the Stupak amendment at a fundamental level.

He really is a one man minstral show. As an African American I can tell you that the majority of us see this buffoon for exactly what he is.As for Palin, I had some concern that Oprah would be nice to her and from the clips I saw yesterday, my fears were valid but, Palin still managed to expose her stupidity by rambling on incessantly about nothing when asked about Levi and you could see that she was lying through her teeth. It’s clear she hates him.It will be interesting to see how Barbara Walters interviews her. She too can be a celebrity asswipe but, can conduct a serious interview when she wants to. There’s no policy in Palin’s book so, if she’s not asked about some of her bullshit statements like the “death panels” and the “Obama pals around with terrorists” this will simply be a week long family time jibberish festival because the Barbara’s interview will be 5 parts. Not to mention her Orgies planned at her headquarters, fox news.

I actually feel sorry for the women who work for the RNC. But it is true, that Steele is a nitwit who has just dramatically made a huge case in point for progressives. This kind of opt-out is precisely what we feared would happen because of the Stupak Amendment. Now if we could only get the figures on how often the elective procedure was used since 1991 and then if we could tell for what purpose…..but that’s a pipe dream. The purpose of the procedures would be private medical data, I don’t think Cigna could reveal the number of “contraceptive” versus “health of the mother” surgeries.

If this has gone on for 18 years, I suspect that at leat a few people got abortions. (snark)Another epic embarrassment, brought to you by the GOP!
