Americans Want More Spending

The conservadems and the Washington media will ignore this.

Americans want their government to create jobs through spending on public works, investments in alternative energy or skills training for the jobless.

They also want the deficit to come down. And most are ready to hand the bill to the wealthy.

A Bloomberg National Poll conducted Dec. 3-7 shows two- thirds of Americans favor taxing the rich to reduce the deficit.

The conventional wisdom is to cut spending or else we’re all going to be overrun by Red China. The conventional wisdom — at least during a recovery from a deep recession — is very wrong.

Obama and the Democrats are finished. The public option is officially dead. The insurance companies have won. Why? Progressives never had a say in any of this. Never.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/10/pelosi-backs-off-public-o_n_387197.htmlIt will be a bloodbath for Democrats in 2010. Obama is a one-term president.

Allen – that’s exactly the sort of premature defeatism that leads to bloodbath victories for the other side. And what the hell does it have to do with spending or the deficit? Or the paradox of thrift and whatnot.

And what the hell does it have to do with spending or the deficit? Or the paradox of thrift and whatnot.

Roj,It has to do with a “Look at me! I’m SO important!” attempt at hijacking the thread.Plus: If we don’t get every “progressive” goal accomplished in the first year of Obama’s 4-year term, it’s an EPIC FAIL, and it’s all Bob Cesca’s fault!

I hate the black/white argument no matter which side it’s on. If someone can’t grasp the concept of gray, there’s no benefit to listening to them. My brain filters the extremes and deals with balanced concepts. So Allen, you can continue your black/white language but all I get from your comments are the sound adults make in the Peanuts. Wah wah wah wah.Jennifer

Guys, Allen has been reading the HuffPost. The headline over there is: Public Option: RIP (apparently Nancy Pelosi has decided to take a wait and see approach rather than flat out threatening to kill the bill). So It’s easy to see where his panic comes from and if you read the comments on that site for almost any article you can understand where his, uhm, sense of despair comes from.

Krugman had it right when he recently wrote that if you want to get deficits down, you have to get people back to work. See, you get more tax revenue when more people are working. It’s almost too simple. As for the huffington post, their headlines have become more alarmist and at times, misleading. I try not to read too much into them. As for the Dems, we should all just wait and see what the final legislation is before judging it. At least that’s what I’m going to try to do.

Question: how many people bemoaning the death of the public option spent last week bitchng about how crappy it is? Shouldn’t they all be dancing in the street to see it dead?Anyway, the day that MSM starts paying attention to what the public actually wants is the day I start believing in the Rapture. If you believe that we should cut the deficit and balance the budget above all else, then I assume you would also let your sick family members die and your house get foreclosed instead of going into debt.

“Question: how many people bemoaning the death of the public option spent last week bitchng about how crappy it is? Shouldn’t they all be dancing in the street to see it dead?”They kind of are while singing “told ya so, told ya so, told ya so.”
