Crazy Quote of the Day

“What’s really great is if you’re really sick anywhere in the world, this is the best place to be sick, it just costs too much.” —Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK)

Yep, we only bankrupt and destroy the lives of people who become sick or injured.

Best system ever!

It’s absolutely frightening how stupid this man is. It’s like he stepped out of a time machine. And as a woman, I can’t imagine letting this quack examine me. Particularly since he’s an gynecologist. Oh, hell No!

  • roxsteady

    What’s an gynecologist? I dunno!

  • alopecia

This is actually improvement for Coburn: he admits the system we have is too expensive. He’s going to get punished by the rest of the Senate Rs if he doesn’t knock it off. What a berk.

  • tikihoodoo

I’ll ask again: how can the state that gave us Leon Russell also give us this ultimate one-two punch of senatorial stupidity?

  • Jan

    Oh Dear God. Wow.

  • jhw22

Has anyone ever figured out how to type the sound you make when you shake your head to try to comprehend nonsense? You know, like after someone gets hit over the head with an anvil and shakes into conscienceness? I want to type that sound in my response to Coburn.Jennifer

Whenever conservadems or repubs talk about “bankrupting our grandchildren/country” to pay for health care, it occurs to me that they are conveniently (willfully?) overlooking the bankrupting of individuals, which is the alternative, and currently the norm. It’s an argument I haven’t seen made (in direct response, anyhoo).

  • jhw22

@Jane — And when they talk about our grandchildren paying our debts, they forget about 12/21/2012 which will essentially make all debts null and void if you really think about it. ;) Jennifer

Jennifer, it’s that crazy cognitive dissonance thing again.I see it as What Gets Included In The Balance Sheets. Same as when large corporations complain about costs of being more environmentally responsible; they are willfully omitting costs that exist, and are usually paid by us the individuals (like chemo or dialysis from exposure to toxins) or even local, county, state and federal governments (like lawsuits and hazmat cleanup fees). If you can pretend those costs don’t exist, your bottom line looks so much better.

I’ll ask again: how can the state that gave us Leon Russell also give us this ultimate one-two punch of senatorial stupidity?

It’s a mystery, Tiki, on a scale with other great mysteries… like how a state that gave us ZZ Top also gave us G.W. Bush, Tom Delay and Rick Perry…or how my state produced Sarah Fucking Palin.

  • veralynn

I know why Alaska got Sarah Palin….it is God’s country Wolfe. *nod nod wink wink*

  • ceu

oh no you don’t, Wolfe! We may be to blame for W, but no way is Delay our fault!Jane – in fearing bankrupting the country for our children and grandchildren, they also miss that without decent health care, those children & grandchildren are gonna swell the gov’t paid foster parents programs.

  • jane

Yeah! North Carolina gave us Jesse Helms and…um, North Carolina gave us Blackwater and…uuuh…okay, North Carolina gave us Liddy Dole and…FUCK. I give up.

  • bibimimi

    Coburn = unmitigated asshole.

  • veralynn

On the plus side jane, we have a wonderful attorney general. but in no way do I mean to say that makes up for jesse or liddy or blackwater or the entire graham family….shit, now I am feeling blue

  • jane

Shit, I thought South Cackalacky could claim Stephen Colbert, but he was merely raised there. Screw it, I’ll give it to ‘em anyway.

  • http://zirgar.blogspot.com ZIRGAR

Can anyone imagine Coburn rootin’ around in some woman’s vajajay like a pig snorting for truffles? I imagine he’d use the same honesty, concern and charming bedside manner as a gynecologist as he does as a politician…And I’m enjoying some cheap bourbon and cola. WOO HOO!!!

  • jhw22

Oh, ZIRGAR, that was not what I needed to read right before going to bed. Eww. Yuck.Jennifer

  • staci

Hilarious, ZIRGAR.You folks are complaining about elected officials — I’ve got Blago AND Roland Burris with a strong probability that the Dems will lose Obama’s old seat to the darker side. Now, I’m depressed again.

  • laddieluv

I’d call for a lobotomy. But it seems obvious that Coburn’s already had one.’Effing TOOL!!!
