This was sooooo awesome! Gretchen’s disingenuous behavior is ridiculously obvious and has been for some time. But it’s part of a bigger pattern at Faux News….Look at Mika Brzeninski….she comes from a wealthy and well-known family, her father is an internationally known foreign policy expert, and she attended Georgetown University and Williams College. She’s not stupid or uneducated but she sure acts like a dumb blond on Morning Joe.In general, educated and ambitious women in the US have two choices. Be balls out smart, tough and work harder than the guys to prove yourself OR act like you “don’t know nuthing” and play that “role”. Admit it gals….haven’t you ever had to make that choice in your career? I have….guess which one I chose? This isn’t to excuse the choice that Gretchen and Mika have made….I think taking that route is disgusting. But it’s a compromise that exists everywhere, but most particularly in careers that tend to be male dominated. Look at Fox, how many women are actually on their shows? It would be interesting to see a study on the main news networks…about the gender ratio in various roles (reporter, anchor, expert guests, etc).

Irish Girl, brains are sexy on a woman and should exceed her cup size. I don’t care what anyone says.

  • Irish Girl

@Matt, yes but only REAL men know that and actually live a life acknowledging that fact ;)

  • roxsteady

That was hysterical! What they all seem to not understand is that it would be more noteworthy and newsworthy if they were simply able to be who they are. To display their intellegence and give their opinions and not just sit there, smiling and deferring to idiocy. Real debate sparked between them and their stupid cohosts. Calling them out on bullshit and misinformation would be more interesting than some of the blatantly stupid guests they parade out each day who spew the same tired talking points.

brains are sexy on a woman not really, Matt. Not so much… Perhaps I’m a cynic, but knowledgable women are much less valued than attractive women. Stupidity may be a turn off for some men, but it was the looks that made the men want to find out if the women are stupid or not. And look at what middle America talks about when a prominent woman like Madeline Albright or Hilary Clinton speaks – her pants suits, the size of her thighs or ankles, her hairstyle, her cleavage, whether a particular color flatters her, if she uses enough/too much make-up, etc.Saying that a woman has brains is often the equivilent to telling the friend you’re setting up on a blind date that the woman has a nice personality….a sneer is often the first reaction.

ceu,There is a large difference between dating someone and who I want giving me news. Yes attractiveness is important for a partner, but it isn’t the only thing. When it comes to my news and information I don’t care what the woman or man for that matter looks like. I don’t need Ken and Barbie telling me about politics. I think Rachel Maddow is the perfect example. She is super smart and delivers the news without pretending to be a confused soccer mom/ditsy model. She is well received in the media world without any obsession with her looks. If the MSM would put on people who do the news well and not just a bunch of damn actors (men and women) looks would be less of an issue. Fox deliberately puts on the blondest, short skirt wearing-ist, “I am so confused”-ist women they can find. This is to attract conservative men to watch and not really listen. The entire Fox News product is style over substance…short skirts over real coverage and debate. So I think intelligence is the most important, but we keep allowing places like Fox News, Fox TV, reality TV in general tell us what our priorities are…sadly more people have picked style over substance. However, I think ultimately most people would rather have a smart spouse than good looking idiot. If you don’t believe me than just look at most people’s utter disdain for Sarah Palin.

Wish I could agree with you, Kid…but I can’t. The difference with Rachel is that she’s openly gay – she’s obviously not there to turn on the male viewers & a lot of people think she’s very attractive. Even in local news – when’s the last time you saw a plain news anchor, or even reporter? The GOPers openly talk down education & intelligence as being elitist…A woman learns to hide her intelligence around men – heaven forbid that a woman should be smarter than her partner or her boss – and if she’s not attractive, people have a different perception of her. [akin to weight - for some reason, overweight people are assumed to be less intelligent than their slimmer counterparts, whether it's true or not] It’s the way this country is – it’s how we’ve been trained to perceive people. Brains are ok on some people, but looks will get ya places! It’s horribly sad, but true – dumb women are more accepted by society.

Rachel Maddow crawling out of her bed in the morning, before paying any attention to hair or makeup, is twice as attractive as any of these women playing the dumb blond. I don’t CARE that she’s gay. She’s still hot, and it’s really her intelligence and wit that makes her so.

  • Ref

Excuse me. It’s her intelligence and wit that MAKE her so.

  • ceu

no one is arguing that Rachel’s both smart & attractive. But she’s one person. I’m saying that in general girls & women are conditioned to believe that attractive outweighs brains.

  • Bull Schmitt

I’m saying that in general girls & women are conditioned to believe that attractive outweighs brains.

I’m totally not going to mention Rich Lowry, and the object of his ‘starbursts’ here.

Nice fiddle playin’ from the shiksa goddess.

  • likala

“Nice fiddle playin’ from the shiksa goddess.”But does it compare to Palin’s crazy eyed flute playin’?
