Lieberman Loves Jujyfruits

Matt Yglesias nails the “double-crossing” Lieberman:

The leverage that Lieberman and other “centrists” have obtained on this issue (and on climate change) stems from a demonstrated willingness to embrace sociopathic indifference to the human cost of their actions.

That’s exactly effing right. He’s playing politics while people are dying. The rest of us are rolling the dice every day, or filing bankruptcy due to medical bills, or lining up for free clinics. Upwards of 3,000 deaths per month due to a lack of health insurance and Joe Lieberman is still stopping off for Jujyfruits.

    The closer it gets to 2010, the closer we get to cynical accusations and innuendo. Feverish accusations designed specifically to cast doubt and suspicion, not only on the President’s abilities to lead, but democrats facing midterm election.When reform passes, and it will, most Democrats will hail it as a breakthrough– and it will be. But it will appear to the casual observer already under-informed, led by the teabagger party and the corporate media, as a hollow celebration hiding political desperation.The longer it takes to get this done and the longer the Liebermans and Nelsons and whomever else can continue to obstruct reforming an indisputably broken system– the spirit and good intentions– moral and fiscal responsibility reform represents– is weakened and diminished for cynical and partisan reasons.This is Lieberman’s way of preemptively pissing on the eventual parade. Make no mistake about it– He’s a spiteful, dishonest, and cowardly little man.

    What I want is for someone to stand up and point out in a public forum that Lieberman is quite literally killing people – hundreds and thousands of people – and driving more into pain, bankruptcy and despair with his petty, spiteful politics. He is exactly the kind of person for whom the phrase “First against the wall when the revolution comes…” was coined.
