The Wingnut Payback Game

The wingnut freakout over the president’s response to the Underpants Bomber is proof that the far-right is only interested in a childish game of paybacks. They’re simply taking criticisms of Bush and using them to attack President Obama, regardless of whether there’s any real similarity (there isn’t).

We ripped Bush’s response to Katrina, so they’re ripping President Obama’s response to the failed Underpants Bomber. Of course this begs the comparison — Katrina? Underpants Bomber? Similar, right?

This is all about, “See how you like it, liberals! NAA-NAA!”

Furthermore, at this point there should be no doubt that if there’s ever a successful terrorist attack that the Republicans will call for the impeachment of President Obama. Or that they would have if Gore was president on 9/11.

Don’t forget that after the successful terrorist attacks of 9/11, Bush’s approval ratings shot up to 90 percent. The Underpants Bomber was a total fail, and, reading the wingnut blogs and Twitters, you’d think President Obama put him up to it. But the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil was a major win for Bush. How does that work?

To repeat, the attack failed! Nothing happened. The plane landed on time and the Underpants Bomber is in custody. There is nothing about this botched attack that requires the president to be physically inside the White House.

But you know, maybe we should get Peter King’s opinion on this, no? Where’s Dick Cheney? The cable news and Politico people are just totally in love with the wingnuts on this one despite the fact that their gripes are as totally ridiculous, incongruous and self-contradictory. Shocker.

Adding… This is Karl Rove’s entire thing — simply recycling attacks on Bush and using them against President Obama.

Great point, Bob. But remember that after the wingnuts finish rewriting history, Bush will not even have been in office during the 9/11 attacks.

What kills me is Tom Ridge yesterday saying Abdulmutallab should have no rights. The guy is singing like a bird to actual trained interrogators, so we ought to fly him to Gitmo and waterboard him on general principles, or something. What a crock.

  • Dan in DE

This is what I’ve been saying about the birthers all along. They’re playing a ‘long game’ of Peewee’s signature I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I tactic. They were truly upset that we questioned the legitimacy of they’re beloved W- because of the scarcely won, contested 2000 election- and they wanted some way to turn the tables on us so badly, it didn’t matter how unrealistic the claims, they knew that Obama was illegitimate. It’s the same phenomenon at play when the fox news right talks about Obama’s supposed fear mongering. It’s a delayed retort of, ‘No, your leaders are the fear mongers!’ And logically, now that the oppurtunity presents itself, it’s ‘Your leaders are the ones who don’t know how to respond to a crisis.’It’s truly childish. But then, when in recent years have we seen anything but childish behavior from the right?

  • NaturallyConservative

Only the ‘wingnuts’ are freaked out? This is liberal bob’s take on the failed bombing attempt? The strategy of trying to do damage control for the chosen one by calling the other side names and whining about unfair comparisons to the shortcomings of the Bush administration has been beat to death the last few days. I expected more from someone who unquestionable has a solid grasp on what is needed by the lefties to stay in power and shove their flawed agenda down the throats of the American people.

  • Dan in DE

Oh, I forgot to mention: they also have a childish obsession with and an extremely immature understanding of sexuality that always seems to lend new credibility to Freud’s ridiculous, archaic ideas on the subject. That would explain why our conservative friend here is so preoccupied with having things shoved down his throat.

  • NaturallyConservative

A true twisted lib, always ends up talking about the sexuality of people who disagree with them. I wonder what Freud would have to say about it.

  • IntoxiNation

It’s because the Republicans think of terrorism as nothing more than a campaigning point. Last year we saw the Democrats actually polling better on national security than the Republicans, something that hasn’t happened in decades. People were tired of the constant fear mongering and lying the GOP did when talking about terrorism. It was proof that they don’t take it seriously, and that is very evident in people like Peter Hoekstra – the man who goes out and blurbs secrets on the news and uses terrorism as a fundraising tool.

  • NaturallyConservative

So one man who blurbs, (Hoekstra) is in your opinion how all Republicans think about terrorism? You need to step away from the mass media and take a breath. This is part of the reason why the dems are going to lose seats in 2010. The Republican party is not as rubber stamped as most of the libs make it out to be. Their views are as numerous as the states they live in. That is what makes both parties so strong. This ability to remain independent, yet united. The mistake of both parties is when they try and push an agenda that only benefits or makes sense for some of their members. When you attack or insult either party (which is what we are both doing)using broad statements like ‘It’s because the Republicans think of terrorism as nothing more than a campaigning point’ you diminish your original thought and your statement makes no sense other than supporting your problem with what Hoekstra did which I did not agree with either, but it doesn’t make all of us weak or opportunists when a security issue arises.

Well, Bob actually only named the Republicans once in his post and that was in regards to impeachment. The group of people he was characterizing repeatedly were the wingnuts, aka, the far right. Its perfectly acceptable to characterize this faction in general terms because it has been identified as a “movement”, which by definition has a set of “beliefs” or “interpretations of fact” that they espouse.Besides, in the blogging context, how many specific friggin examples do you need? I could write a research paper about the activities of the past few days with properly cited sources and a bibiography if you would prefer.Truth is the MSM DOES offer up some crazy, out of touch with reality BS from the far right, particularly from the likes of Rove, Buchanan, Gingrich, etc, that is not balanced out by views in the middle or the left. Do we have time to list them all here….no….but all you have to do is watch cable news to see it.

  • GOVCHRIS1988

Come on Bob, this has been going on since November 4th. I mean, a couple of days before President Obama got elected, it was “Obama causing bear market.” The Pirate Standoff “The President should be out front and holding press conferences and telling the pirates, BRING EM ON!” The same thing with the Ft.Hood Shooting and the Underpants Bomber. They know what they are doing. They supported President Bush, propped him up for so long, and now that his terms are over and left us near hell, they pretend they didn’t even know he was even President and like Dana Perino and Mary Matilin try to do, cast all of what happened under his watch away from him. They are doing one hell of a cleanup job on his Presidency.

  • Dr. Squid

but it doesn’t make all of us weak or opportunists when a security issue arises. That’s because you’re weak at all times. If you weeren’t so feeble, you wouldn’t be racists. If you weren’t so weak, you wouldn’t be bitching about affirmative action. The problem with you conservatives is that you know you’re a bunch of feebs so you do the macho act to try to prove otherwise. And the “liberal” press eats it up because they have the same issues.

  • NaturallyConservative

(If you weeren’t so feeble, you wouldn’t be racists)Thanks for the tip, I’ll be sure and pass it on to my interracial family members.Again, your rants are entertaining, but if you really want to get your ‘change you can believe in” aganda back on track before we boot as many of you out as we can in 2010, you need to realize that Conservatism did not cease to exist just because ‘The Chosen One’ was elected as our president. As for your liberal press comment, if it wasn’t for the lib press kissing every dems butt in sight during the election, the outcome may very well have been different. (and no, I was not a huge fan of either repub candidate)For a party with the numbers to get things done you should be steamrollering your chosen agenda at full speed. But as you are well aware of there is plenty of resistance not only from fiscal conservatives such as myself, but from many within the democratic party.Maybe if you take a moment to catch your breath, you can explain why your team is having such a hard time convincing America that we are being led down the right path?
