Triggered What?

The Senate Democrats are seriously considering Tom Carper’s ridiculous “Plan B” for the public option. Of course it’s not a public option at all. It’s something called “triggered co-ops.”

I wonder if the conservadems realize that by forcing Reid and the healthcare leadership to entertain and perhaps accept such an awful compromise that they’re risking failure for the entire reform effort and consequently endangering the congressional majorities. I simply don’t see the House progressives supporting triggered whatevers. Just a bad, bad idea.

Meanwhile, Ezra thinks that there’s an opening to abandon a weak public option in lieu of a very progressive policy idea somewhere else in the legislation. I’ve been arguing the opposite — that the Senate leadership ought to offer the conservadems a concession elsewhere and leave the public option intact.

How about Reid just force the new “gang of four” to explain themselves vis-a-vis the CBO in actual, y’know, debate?

It’s as if they have some sort of death wish. Are they trying to get thrown out of office? They can’t think we won’t bolt on them if they pass this garbage. To allow these duplicitous blue dogs and conservadems to hijack their party’s signature legislation when they have 60 votes is political malpractice 101. What they hell do they think the Left’s reaction to this will be? They joined our party. We didn’t join theirs!

But wait- we can get president Snowe!!!!!So we’ll just water this down to virtually nothing so we can get 60 votes. This is getting to be totally ridiculous plus they also want to insert a Stupak amendment in also or else Nelson won’t vote for it.I’m done. I don’t even give a shit anymore.

“I’m done. I don’t even give a shit anymore.”Jan, that’s exactly what they’re hoping for. They want us to give up. I know what you mean, I feel the same way. But we gotta hang in there.
