Very Serious Question

Why are the Republicans against healthcare reform to the point of filibustering and stalling? They should want it to pass because, as Joe Scarborough said today, this bill is great news for Republicans.

In all honesty, I really think that they are planning on going to the voters and saying “we fought tooth and nail to defeat it but failed. Help return us to power and we can get rid of it”.The sad part is that will probably work. Given the poor polling on the bill and how long it will really take for it to fully kick in, the Republicans have a couple of cycles to make this work.Obama needs to really put his game face on. Once the bill hits his desk he should do a prime time press conference and explain in great detail what this bill will and won’t do. They should also get the web wizards in gear to launch a government site where people can see exactly how it will effect them individually. They have to sell this bill for the next 5 years, and sell it hard. They already have the media against them, so its a perfect time for the Obama administration to learn the game of message control.Oh and if they plan on having Congress go back to their constituents to sell the bill that will result in the same fiasco we saw back in August. It must be Obama selling it.

Listen, trying to apply logic to republicans, no matter if they were just using it to justify their actions 5 seconds prior, is like trying to apply crisco to a duck… they shoot away in a random direction squawking loudly and you’re left standing there in need of hand soap and ear plugs.

What’s really sad is that Scarborough and the rest of the idiots in his party actually think this is good for them. If the Democrats could just fix this bill they would have no trouble getting reelected.

@Intox: talk about giving in too easily. Why would their lies work? We have a years worth of the GOP -on video and on tape – saying the most outrageous shit, admitting that they wanted to kill the bill, had no intention of voting for the bill, told the most bold faced lies that we can prove were lies, and so much more.We gotta go Daily Show style on these guys and tear them to shreds over and over and over. If we can all stop bickering we could make this happen. No matter what anyone thinks of the Dems performance this year, the GOP was atrocious and just evil. People are suffering, our economy was on the brink and they chose to do nothing – they need to be punished

I disagree with IntoxiNation. People will not even be talking about healthcare 2 months after it passes. By the time November 2010 rolls around the loud noises will be about something else entirely. Probably financial reform or immigration.America has an incredibly short memory and attention span. Healthcare will be forgotten. That said, Doucheborough is a raging idiot.

@rox – I really wish they could fix it. It doesn’t look like it though. The circular firing squad has started already. Feingold and Webb both have released statements basically blaming Obama for it.

  • roxsteady

Then someone needs to remind both of these dicks that they are the legislative branch that writes the bills. They should also be called out for not having the BALLS to call out the Senators who really are responsible. Fuck Feingold and his CZAR hearings and Webb and his invisibility. Let’s hope this blame the president shit catches on. Perhaps Howard Dean will call out his former colleagues for their attemts to escape blame.

By the way, I’ve got CSPAN on and I heard them say that after tonight’s vote, you probably won’t see the Dems again until Tuesday at 7:00am so, we can expect to see Republicans all over the cable networks tomorrow. This is just one more reason not to watch MSNBC during the day. On the other hand, I don’t think I can resist peaking in on that douchebage Scarborough tomorrow morning just to see him spin this as further disaster for the Dems. Don’t worry Joe. We may still be able to fix this and kick you party ass again!

McCain just fininshed ranting. I kept the sound out so he looked even more pathetic trying to swing his fists while flinging spittle. He just looks every bit the cranky, old, depend wearing, geezer who soils himself regularly! I hate that man!

No public option – check!Reduces the deficit – check!Okay, where are the Republican votes? I can’t figure out what they’re voting against in this bill besides to be obstructionists.

  • ceu

Intox is right, Obama needs to sell it hard & talk about it in the SOTU. People really don’t know what’s going on with it, which is why a lot of people on both sides are now against it. The Manager’s Amendment which they’ve been debating today doesn’t sound horrible. It’s not single payer & it’s not a public option, but there are a number of good things in it.And Myst! LOL!

Come on Harry! I’m watching Monk right now and it’s one of my favorites because at the end of the episode they play White Christmas by Otis Redding which is my favorite version. It’s amazing!

  • roxsteady

And the 60 votes are in. Suck it hard Republicans! Goodnight all!
