Evan Bayh’s Common Sense Solutions

I love it — love it! — when Democrats repeat Republican frames. Very helpful and effective to reinforce what these wackaloons have to say. Evan Bayh, for example, was on Morning Joe this morning and used variations of the phrase “common sense solutions.”

We’re gonna pursue a common sense path to get back on the right path.

Common sense solutions that show we’re in touch with ordinary Americans…

It sounded familiar. Where have I heard that before?

But those common sense solutions there, especially with the cutting taxes on the job creators? That’s not even being discussed.

Not when there are common sense solutions to meeting health care challenges in our country… So lots of commonsense solutions that need to be plugged in before ever considering federal government taking it over.

It’s all about Americans who are hurting right now and what those solutions are that are so obvious, so common sense that need to be plugged in.

“Common sense” is generic and subjective. What Sarah Palin and Evan Bayh think of as “common sense” is very different than what the rest of us believe.

Common sense is the least common of the senses.

Again with the messaging incompetence. Evan Bayh’s personal incompetence aside, the fact that any high-profile Dem is RESPONDING to Palin’s talking point messaging instead of LEADING the message is halfway to failure before leaving the gate. It is like Dems, including the president I’ve very sorry to say, have no mode other than, “Holy crap we need to react to this!” Massachusetts was a wake up call as everyone is saying, and yet they were warned six months ago they were losing independents as well as some of their base. Only after a huge symbolic loss do they decide to do anything and what they decide to do is, what else, common sense like fucking freezing spending. I swear to God it’s like children are running this country.

I think Bayh really thought he had a shot at being picked as Obama’s VP and still hasn’t gotten over it.Slightly in his defense, I imagine in a place like Indiana, he must be getting a ton of calls and letters opposing health care reform, way more than in support. All we need is to count on his vote. When he says stuff like this, he’s hopefully just paying lip service to his constituents.

Generally, when “common sense” is used in a political context to refer to something, what it’s referring to is neither common nor sensible.

Common sense is one of those phrases that sound like it means something. In reality it is so trite as to be meaningless. And it is one of the worst political cliches.eljefejeff, I don’t know much about Indiana politics. However, I am guessing that many of his constituents would want health care reform as so many are out of work.

Eve I’m no expert on Indiana either but they’re traditionally red, and across the country, the opposition to health care has been much more vocal than supporters, and that’s not even taking into account polls showing more people against than for it. Those people are mostly uninformed, as polls also show people warm to the bill when they find out what’s in it, since you’re right that most people do believe it should be reformed.Still, Bayh is a mofo.

I think you are much closer to a reasonable analysis of Indiana than I was, eljej.
