Give Me a Huge Freaking Break

Brian Williams leading off the NBC Nightly News:

Good evening. Because this is a family broadcast, we probably can’t say what we’d like to about the news today that Mark McGwire—the home run hitter, the family favorite from the St. Louis Cardinals—stopped lying today and admitted that he did it while on steroids.

OH NO!

Wait what?

This was the lead news story yesterday, and it commanding this level of outrage? Wow.

Ahhh yes, sports and the entertainment world (including cable and network news)…the opiate of the people.

    …zzzzz…

(It occurred to me that I should clarify my comment above: it was not aimed at Bob’s post, rather that Brian Williams seems to be feigning surprise at McGwire’s confession. I think we’ve gotten to the level of sophistication that deems anyone who closely resembles the guys who turn up on WWE are most likely doing steroids, no matter what they say…)

Well, since Barry Bonds was harangued mercilessly on this same issue while McGwire was allowed to lie, I’ll admit to feeling the story was newsworthy.QT

Well, I’ll be! I always thought testes the size of chick peas was worth the risk…

Oh kay, so when a country is invaded under false allegations in 20003 or a CIA (noc) agent is outed that is quite alright as I’ve rarely heard such editorials on the evening news broadcasts regarding restraint in using such language. The msm will only look more and more as a tabloid rag(especially with the coverage Halprins book is getting).

I’m telling you they are, if not purposefully, then at best irresponsibly blurring the line between really heinous and just bad or even just annoying.

This is actually one of those stories where one (well, at least I) can be as Slotman Bob Bennett once put it “outraged by the outrage.” I don’t much care about the story and how they were cheating by doing something that wasn’t actually against the rules at the time, but the public moralizing and rending of garments over this is just idiotic.Unfortunately, that dope Canseco’s general story turned out to be true, except maybe for the homoerotic flourishes he added.

Great point, Queen.Maybe not the lead story, though.

okay,so im a huge baseball geek.as in,ive read hundreds of books on the history of baseball,i have an embarassing knowledge of stats, and who won the 1914 world series etc….and having said all that….wtf is wrong w/ this dude?the msm has 100pct completely lost all journalistic credibility.brian williams is actually a sorta likeable guy.he would be terrific doing a cute little webcast thing.a bit of perspective….the msm barely covered the CIA attack in afghanistan.that story is long since forgotten.

I watched last night and had the same WTF moment with that lead. But, the whole news cast was more like a tabloid “EXTRA” episode than actual news. Sickening. Does this have anything to do with the Comcast deal that is coming soon? Totally pathetic. I especially liked the big of gossip they’re spewing about that new book – the title escapes me because it is completely irrelevant. Do you really believe that Elizabeth Edwards whipped her top off at an airport terminal and had a tantrum? Really? I cannot believe that they’re all salivating over this nonsense. Even Rachel Maddow. Absolutely ridiculous. This is what it’s come to folks. Carnival barkers.

You know, I’m kinda glad that I only get 20 channels now due to Comcast’s new “box converter” rule. I may have lost MSNBC and CNN, but FOX is gone. But really, this is a deep double standard, especially Brian Williams bullshit statement. “FAMILY BROADCAST!!?” After talking about Tiger Woods indiscretions. Or how about Barry Bonds. Is the same shitstorm gonna hit McGwire? Bullshit, all of it, corn loaded, smells so terrible, you can taste it, BULLSHIT!
