Terrorism by the Year

In an effort to further illustrate the increased number of terrorism attacks under the Bush administration, I created several more graphs. This time, broken down by year.

First, all “major” attacks against U.S. interests, including abortion-related terrorism and terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan. Regarding the latter, I only listed the attacks noted at this source. There are certainly more that can be attributed to terrorism, but I’m trying to keep the sources consistent.

Up next, all “major” attacks against U.S. interests by year, without abortion-related terrorism and without attacks by terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq:

And finally, I was struck by the number of abortion-related attacks (including the 2009 murder of Dr. Tiller) versus the number of Islamic terrorist attacks on American soil. The difference is remarkable:

Right-wing extremism, by the numbers, appears to be more prevalent inside the United States than Islamic terrorism.

UPDATE: Predictably, the doofs at Fox & Friends suggest that there’s been a “recent uptick” in terrorism, and it’s all President Obama’s fault:

Wow, Sir Cesca. You have outdone yourself with these graphs. This type of research is the best leverage when dealing with the propagandists. Yep, don’t just talk and gripe about it,do something about it, in some small way. ( Believe you me Bob,this is no small way, this is a big way)!Go, Bobby! Thanks for taking the time and effort.

I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t have the focus to go on defending the President- when some yahoo starts talking about trying to keep America safe by hooking up any terrorists we catch to a car battery, I’m gonna take that on. These people are so obsessed with Jack Bauer and attaching electrodes to the evildoers’ testes, they dont even realize that this kind of brutality is ineffective and that it only justifies more hatred of America. Why is so much of the public this clueless? Because the most watch cable news channel is out there cheerleading for torture.

OT: Hope you like/love Avatar as much as I did Bob. I saw it with my conservative son and dil. They loved it too, although I don’t think they got the statement Cameron makes with the movie, if so they didn’t say anything. Some right wingers are quite upset about it. Well, what aren’t they upset about?Maybe a thread later today on Avatar?Oh, and I want/need a whole bunch of that unobtanium.

Why do you label Christian terrorism as Abortion related terrorism? these people are christians following acting on their religious beliefs.

joshuawelch:So are the Islamic terrorists, acting out on their religious beleifs, I mean. It’s no excuse to Muslims and it’s no excuse for Christians.

You should send out a copy of your graph and research to various news organizations and see if they will finally drive the nails in the coffin of the “he kept us safe” crap. I’m almost curious as to what Fox would do with the data.

ZIRGAR: of course they are acting on their religious beliefs. the point is let’s give christianity credit when credit is due. christianity is too often separated from the atrocities carried out by christians. bob should be consistent w/ his labels. religion is an ideological cancer
