Republican Summit Fail

Admittedly, I was trapped inside a multitasking loop of death today, but I listened to as much of the summit as I could, and this much is obvious: given an opportunity to get serious, the Republicans made with the same buffoonery and childish gimp speak they’ve employed for a year now.

So it looks like the president and the Democrats will move forward without them. Thank effing goodness.

The endless cavalcade of “government takeover” Luntz-speak topped with a healthy dose of lying about CBO reports made them look like the buffoons they are. This time on national television for seven and a half hours. One of the GOP talking points that I found most offensive was the repeatedly misleading poll numbers. Americans hate this bill! Mumble grumble! Well, actually, when they’re presented with the various individual provisions of the bills, healthcare reform is very popular.

Anyway, can we pass the damn bill now?

Exactly! And I’ve already heard more than a few idiot tv talking heads call this a draw. Bullshit! The Republicans proved just how unserious they are about this issue with their “tort reform and start from scratch” screeching. I hope the rest of America now understands where the Republicans are on this issue. They don’t give a damn about the people who are suffering. They just want to get back in the majority way more than they want to help the American people. Pass the damn bill and fix it!

Guys, if anything, I think this was a net win for the republicans in terms of public opinion. We of course know they were lying but the average voter probably doesn’t. As we’ve seen in polls, they’re entirely uninformed, and the democrats weren’t always ready with a rebuttal, the way Obama was when he schooled republicans earlier this month. Some of the democrats did a good job but Obama’s the most valuable and he coulda done better by himself.

A net win? What the heck? How come everytime the repubs lie, cheat and weazle their way,it is deemed a net win. I am beginning to think that Americans perceive things very differently than other parts of the world.Win…heck no. Why does it have to be win or lose anyway? Heck, repubs are full of bullshit and the MSM let them get away with it, because they are more concerned with filling the airwaves with what these ‘no-nothing to offer old racist deadbeats’say, do, respond with, than actually working to improve America. Too sad again, but that’s the reality!

The only poll I care about is the fact that Obama ran his Presidential campaign (in large part) on health care reform, and we kicked the hell out of the opposing viewpoint AT THE POLLS.The fact that some a-hole calls every white person over the age of 65 in southern Georgia and asks “Do you agree with the government takeover of health care?” makes no difference to me.If the Dems get this done, the country will stand up and cheer…eventually.

  • roxsteady

I agree! The Republicans will have nothing to run on. Meanwhile the Dems can continue to force difficult votes and put Republicans on the spot. And point out things like this which Dems should have done today while the cameras were rolling. From McJoan at dailykos:”Well, it seems like at least one Republican is not, in fact, going to ensure that unemployed workers keep their benefits without first trying to cut taxes for the heirs of multi-millionaires:On Wednesday, a top Republican leader said a deal on the bill would depend on working out the fate of the expired estate tax…Minority Whip Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., said that Republicans will block consideration of the new bill unless they get “a path forward fairly soon” on the estate tax.”The Dems should have blasted them for this as an example of their dulicity. It’s a disgrace!

Unfortunately, eljefejeff has a valid point since most people didn’t watch/listen to it and will only wee what was broadcast as “news” tonight. Most of the soundbites used by cbs were lies – unchallenged, of course.

  • Wolfe_Tone

This gives traction to “moving forward without them.”The Republicans were given a seat at the table.Instead of meaningful participation, they stomped their feet and held their breath until they turned blue. That’ll show Obama!

  • roxsteady

It can’t go unnoticed that the Republicans didn’t offer one new idea. The few that they did mention were all of the ones that are already in the bill. With over 2 weeks to put together proposals they didn’t bring one solid idea to the table. The people have seen this first hand.

  • staci

You say it can’t go unnoticed, roxsteady, but have you heard anybody even bring this point up on any of the “major” broadcasts? The Democrats don’t have nearly as much of a problem with messaging as they do with a media that is complicit with keeping up the lies and bullshit.

  • caribbeanobserver

Yep…it’s the WARPED MEDIA stupid!! I can’t for the life of me understand why they report in the extreme what republicans say,do and respond with.A democrat’s success is always downplayed and yet there are whole discussions on the repubs nothingness ALL THE FRICKIN’ TIME.Geez, I wouldn’t mind if there was some substance to their stuff, but why is it that they keep on talking about these nonentities, as well as thrusting their mean faces in our aura. It is time to tackle these media monsters, who are ever-ready to quote polls and are always so negative!

Newt Gingrich on Gweta van Sussssssstewan just now talking about a possible plan B for health care. See…even he knows they lost.If I wasn’t busy getting my ass kicked by the market right now I’d offer a bet that Republicans, between now and Reconciliation, offer not one, but a dozen “compromise” bills, trying to postpone the inevitable. All of those offers will contain absolutely no sign whatsoever of pre-existing condition cures.Nevertheless, you’ll be forced to admire their spunk.

The Democrats need to act boldly and pass it quickly and fight back hard with a strong message, with people like Anthony Weiner, Alan Grayson and Willie Brown.

  • JackDanieL

You take that opening statement from Lamar whatshisname, and when you listen, he is calm and even rational, with good ideas for beginning to curb costs, but when he reads his laundry list of reasons why costs are skyrocketing, and neglects to even mention the obscene profits and executive compensation, ALL his cred goes down the drain. I am so sick of politicians from both sides tip-toe-ing around the fact that YES this is America, andNO we dont put salary caps on private business, but we sure as hell can kick them in the sack if the way they make those profits is UN-AMERICAN.

  • http://extremeliberal.wordpress.com/ Jim in Michigan

I’ve only seen and heard bites of it today, but it seems like the Republicans at least stayed on message. Their brainwashed, droning masses got their red meat and talking points to go forth with.

  • MrBrink

One thing is for sure.Right wing propaganda has turned it up to 11 today. It’s downright silly, man.And I watched the summit today.I watched Paul Ryan, the conservative cult’s up and comer Rep. from WI– mock the CBO– right before admitting he defers to them all the time. He shook his head in arrogant denial as he was confronted with this obvious discrepancy by Becerra(D-CA) who seemed to know him pretty well professionally. This is what is hailed as the future of the republican party? Hell, Newt Gingrich might as well run for something again. And Right wing radio this evening is mercilessly ridiculing Nancy Pelosi with the relentless enthusiasm and decorum of a prison gangrape for suggesting that, beyond living up to simple decency and moral obligation to its citizenry, this healthcare bill will create millions of private sector healthcare jobs, greatly improve technologies in IT and information, funding for biomedical research, focus on prevention and wellness. All this coupled with healthcare measures taken in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, expansion of S-Chip, are all great strides with an eye on the future, for the country, while naturally encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.Yeah! What;s that daffy bitch’s problem?!She’s so out of touch with reality.Staking claim to principles of accountability for the death panels of insurance providers, accessibility and affordability for those lacking, and all the while reducing the overall costs to GDP over the next couple decades.Grrr. Nancy Pelosi!!!Now, that tort reform sounds mighty important. Gotta get me some of that there tort reform.I hear it goes great with medical sponges and instruments left in your organs.Final thought for the night: Democracy won today. Republicans are always losers.
