Desperate Lies About Majority Rule

Paul Krugman:

So, on the This Week panel today I didn’t get a chance to weigh in on the biggest whopper from Sen. Lamar Alexander, who told Elizabeth Vargas that reconciliation — I don’t have the exact transcript — had in the past been used for small things and “to reduce the deficit”.

In fact, reconciliation was used to pass the two major Bush tax cuts, which increased the deficit — by $1.8 trillion.

And there’s no penalty for this kind of deception.

That’s the heart of the matter. Fox News is spreading the same lie, so there’s no accountability there — although, we shouldn’t expect any. At some point, with the growing list of very obvious and easy-to-prove Republican contradictions, you’d think there’d be some kind of push back from the press. But there’s nothing.

They really are pathetic. They’re obsessed with bullshit. Like that idiot reporter on Saturday who yelled to the President if he thought Rangel should keep his chairmanship right after the President had completed his statement on the earthquake in Chile. That’s what this asshole took away from that statement? Ugh!

It is teh first question I would ask any journalist or politician…”What are we going to do about all of the LYING.”Politics and political philosophy will always have it’s spin, but what is so staggering about the last year is how blatant the lying has been, and how easy it is to debunk the lies…and how the debunking by our “liberal” media is virtually non-existent.Even KO isn’t really going there–RM is the only one calling out the media. I actually think her reporting (yes it is done sometimes) on GOP lies and hypocrisy(especially about reconciliation)has heloped blunt the zombie narrative. Some in the press are still conflating recon/nuclear, but I do feel Maddow’s reporting has blunted what would have been a universal beltway meme–”the Dems are using the nuclear option!!!”

Yes JG, Rachael is calling out the lies as she hears them. Unfortunately, I believe most hosts, with the exception of comedians (comedians!)like Stewart and Maher, are just not that informed or quick on their feet like Rachael. I was also dismayed at the amount of comments to Paul Krugman’s column today (financial regulation and consumer protection, who blame Obama for the lack of regulation and accountability. So many many people think the adminstration is owned by the banking industry.

If you ask me the core of this problem is that the anchors of these shows themself do not know the truth or what is right and wrong. They show up to work, go on the a set, and follow a script handed to them by their producer and let the guests do most of the work.If Im wrong, and they actually are informed, then may they rot in hell.

Indy, I’m a Maher fan, but “quick on his feet” is hardly an expression I’d use for him. Last week’s show was an absolute disgrace, as two of his panel guests got away with one beltway-approved inaccuracy after another. If it doesn’t fit into one of his existing monologues about something, he is flat-footed.

CoryI agree with you on Bill Maher. I was quite disappointed in last week’s show. I feel unless it is about weed or how fat everyone is – his heart is just not into his show anymore. Sometimes he gets on point and he is great…but last week was horrible and he added nothing to the conversation IMHO

Many comments here bring up a point….with an objective of getting as many viewers as possible, each outlet tries to be as “attractive” as possible. And one of the side effects of that is to have “attractive” faces on TV. Have you noticed how many “good looking” faces CNN has? Out of them all, only Cindy Crowley has a major show and she SEEMS smart enough not to buy into the BS, but there she is constantly repeating lies and wingnut memes. A pretty face and intelligent to boot, Anderson Cooper, should be smart enough to sort through the BS but even he does the same repeating and BSing lately.Maybe the problem is that they aren’t writing their own material….maybe producers too concerned with marketing and sales are writing the content and too many so called “journalists” are faces repeating someone else’s lines…..Not that that takes away any responsibility on their part….I couldn’t look myself in the mirror if I got paid good money to clearly enunciate lies day in and day out.

For the record, HCR does reduce the deficit. So the comment that reconciliation had in the past been used only to reduce the deficit is actually two lies in one (minimum).

Bob, I think you are just going to have to accept the fact that the Republicans are in power right now and get to say what they want. When the Dems are in power they’ll get…get to…wait…The Majority rules?Has anyone told the Democrats this yet?

  • caribbeanobserver

No, no ,no I absolutely refuse to whinge and not be pro-active.!!! Bob, please could you start a LIE versus Truth column right here and we can correct the mistruths, misspoke etc etc,?Ideas will surely come after with what to do when it has gained a hefty list. I would do so much more if I was computer savvy, but I am not. But, the stench of the Republicans lies is too overbearing and must be dealt with, because it makes for the feeling that the truth has no power any more…and then what does that say about a society!Go Bob, start the process. And yes, as I stated before Dr Rachel Maddow is the only one with guts to tackle the msm (Mediocre/sham/monsters)!Waiting to hear your position on this folks.
