Good Job, Republicans!

The Republicans successfully filibustered Wall Street reform today.

As promised, Senate Republicans blocked a vote to start debate on Wall Street reform this afternoon. In a rather ridiculous move, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) joined with the GOP, proving once again just how embarrassing he can be.

And wow, Ben Nelson is pretty clueless, no? I mean, the whole idea was simply to catch the Republicans lining up in support of Wall Street. That was the whole point. Nelson doesn’t seem to understand entry-level politics. Smooth move, ass.

Wow, no shit, Ben Nelson joined them. Let’s beat the hell out of the Repubs with it, bludgeon them.

No Bob, Nelson understands, he just simply doesn’t care. The benefits he can reap from special interests is far more important to him than bad politics and bad policy.

    Two words: Warren Buffet

    Warren Buffett indeed.

Earlier in the day, Senate negotiators agreed to remove a provision that Nelson had inserted last week, which would have exempted any existing derivatives contracts from being subjected to new capital requirements. That provision had been pushed by Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., which has $63 billion in existing derivatives contracts and would have to set aside $8 billion to cover potential losses on those contracts if the legislation were to pass.

I think that JM Ashby pretty much nailed it.

I just hope the local papers in Nebraska pick this up. I would hope that he’d get a lot of nasty phone calls for his duplicity from the locals. I can not stand this man. I hope that the Dems somehow manage to pick up about 2 or 3 Senate seats so that they can Libermann his ass. Marginalize this stupid bastard and force him to pull a Spector in reverse. What a dick. Good luck getting anyone to see this attempt to shield a billionare as anything but what it is, you piece of shit!

rox, I’m in favor of primarying Nelson even if it cost democrats the senate. he’s practically a republican anyway

I agree, el jefe. I’m all for having a big tent and some flexibility if a congressman deviates occasionally, but basically supports the party platform. Senator Nelson does just the opposite though.
