Dueling Wingnut Conspiracy Theories

Breitbart is now suggesting that the Spooners, the farmers who Shirley Sherrod helped, aren’t who they say they are.

And Glenn Beck thinks this is some sort of twisted conspiracy orchestrated by the president to discredit Fox News Channel:

So let’s follow this logic. The White House clandestinely sent Breitbart a selectively edited and misleading video of a low-level USDA official. Breitbart engages in horribly irresponsible reporting and publishes this video while screaming racism. The White House fires the so-called “racist” person in the video, making the administration look ridiculous. Fox News is discredited for airing the clip. But so is every other news outlet that aired it. President laughs. For some reason. Even though he, too, looks silly.

Huh.

So Glenn Beck’s stupid theory is predicated upon the idea that Breitbart is a shitty reporter. I’ll buy that part, at least.

Beck also screeches about how the media has destroyed Sherrod’s life. But just yesterday, Beck was calling her a “Maoist.” Rush Limbaugh suggested Breitbart’s video was “great work.”

Oh come on, CNN. Why even have Breitbart on?

  • staci

Off topic here, but is anybody else following the bullshit in the Senate regarding the unemployment vote being held up for an additional 30 hours by the Republicans? I’m watching C-Span and I don’t know whether to scream or just start crying.

  • LK

I swear…it sounds like an old episode of smile your on candid camera. If only…it were…then I could laugh instead of cry.

Think about it – if these guys worked as hard on promoting good, factual news, or supporting honest, forward moving organizations and projects, they’d get so much done. Instead, they expend enormous energy on the most twisted, confusing and self-defeating (I hope, in the long run) conspiracy and anti-American theories….

  • Allonfla

Oh he called her Maoist? And just today I read some comments from the left giving kudos to beck for not believing the story.

There is no limit to craziness, is there? Cue the Twilight Zone music….

“President laughs. For some reason. Even though he, too, looks silly.”I don’t think he looks silly. I also don’t believe that he had anything whatsoever to do with forcing Sherrod to resign. Also, sometimes laughter is something you do when you really want to cry. Or, it could be that he laughed because the whole damn thing is so fucking outrageous and ridiculous. You hear this, MSM. Breitbart made you ALL look like the BLITHERING IDIOTS that you are.

  • Lexaburn

Yes, CNN allows the imbecile to go on the air, thereby extending the story. It’s the same game each and every time.Have you all noticed the pattern yet?Nicole, the scammer didn’t make anyone look like a fools. They are in on the scam, you see. It’s the same thing that happened in the ACORN scandal. Recall all the shows inviting the scammer on to gloat.Or is it merely designed to make O’Keefe and Breitbart the face of the scam, lest anyone suspect that they are all in on it.You don’t get a pattern like this and not consider it deliberate. The media is getting away with openly peddling falsehoods to not only make the president look bad, but to keep us all interested. It’s the Bush/Republicon legacy-building project but in reverse. They are all in on it.Breitbart’s a pawn.

  • http://extremeliberal.wordpress.com/ Jim in Michigan

    It’s a “triple double-cross”.

  • alopecia

Breitbart screwed the pooch on this one and he knows it, hence the desperate hand-waving. “How do we know she’s really the farmer’s wife?” “How do we know this incident happened twenty-four years ago?” “You tell me what you did to confirm any of her story!”"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.”If his big story turns out to be predicated on a lie, he becomes a laughingstock and he loses influence with the media. Oh, he could certainly get a sinecure at some righty think-tank, but the rest of the world would—rightly, to my mind—see him as bitter and pathetic and pay him no attention. The sooner he sinks into obscurity, the better for us all.Beck was just being Beck, stringing random words into sentence-like structures that sound meaningful unless you actually listen.

Bob: OK, Elvis…you take this gun and go into the bank. Tell everyone you have them surrounded and to hand over the money. I’ll wait here in the car. And believe you me, I have the difficult job.Elvis: What the fuck? I’m supposed to take this gun, go into the bank where there’s six armed guards and god knows how many fuckin’ concealed carry Tea Party freaks…tell them I have them surrounded. You’re gonna stay here in the car, and YOU got the DIFFICULT JOB?Bob: Yeah, man. I don’t how to fucking drive!

As soon as I heard Beck say the words “they’re in on it”, followed by the obligatory mention of George Soros, almost everything that followed was instantly filtered out by my crazy-o-meter. Did he mention communists? I bet he mentioned communists. The idea that “they” (whoever “they” are) are “in on it” (whatever “it” is) is just so old-school crazy that I’m a little disappointed in ol’ Glenn.More impressive were his claims that “Obama doesn’t want you listening to Fox News”. Also a classic, but more effective. See, this way he gets to once again tap into the “us-vs.-them” persecution complex that brings his crazy listeners together.”Oh yeah?” they’ll say. “Well, I’ll stick it to that Kenyan Muslim and listen to Fox News TWICE as hard! That’ll teach HIM to try to tell me what to do!”It’s just like the Breitbart reverse-racism nonsense. Convince your white, christian listeners that they’re the minority, that they’re under attack and they’ll be wiped out if they don’t stick together and take action right now.And that “action” takes the form of wielding their actual majority power to do things like vote down the rights of minority groups to marry, or to apply pressure to get honest civil servants fired.I wish I knew what to do about this.

Its a moronathanI feel sorry for the youth of this nation. They dont stand a fucking chance among the rest of the world thanks to our media.Look at these so called “adults” on the teevees, on NEWS channels no less. Playing games with people’s lives.

  • brutlyhonest

Flawless victory. And last night nbc “news” tied this to the already fully discredited NBPP/DOJ scandal.

  • http://kcdad.livejournal.com Charles Brown

How can you discredit Fox News? They have no credibility, except with those people who have no time or use for facts and truth. It is like trying to discredit a 2 year old expressing an opinion about nuclear physics. You just have to ignore them.

Gosh Bob, I always get so infuriated with you when I eagerly check in for upliftment, only to see your constant daily foray into the Glen Beck Diaries. (Yep, I know it’s your blog and you can do whatever you want….but a girl can hope, can’t she?)I think of the axiom ‘The more you think/talk about something, the more it expands’.I enjoyed Brit Andrew Sullivan summing up Breibart so succinctly on the so-called planting of the farming couple. “Good grief, he’s bonkers’! I just laughed so hard at the image of this being said British style.

The racist/liar Breitbart was on GMA with that pasty/spineless George this AM.George, who has no balls, basically gave Breitbart the mike and let him say/justify/deny/lie/spin away instigation/manipulation of this incident for the entire segment.I was “screaming” at the tee vee. There was another guy there, too. Representing the “other” side of the argument. But he basically didn’t get to say chit. So I’ve forgotten who he was.Breitbart was on other channels today besides CNN. No one held him accountable. No one. I think he was on MSNBC earlier with Jonathan Capehart and Nora. But even she let him take over the segment. And Breitart interupts any other guest who is saying anything he doesn’t like. So other people in any segment with this lying, immature bigot don’t get to say much of anything before they are cut off by this asshat.Pathetic. Wing nutz just cannot stand that anyone on the left (or anywhere) sees/calls/feels they are bigots. Can’t speak re: Beckerhead. Makes me way too ill. Literally.I don’t remember the part of history where blacks owned whites. Anyone?

The MSM have become the bastion of an empty, shallow pool of intrigue and propaganda reportings and responses, obviously designed to bring down this PRESIDENT IN modern day America. I put it to you that they are all in it together. They are quick to respond without substantial evidence, twist simple stories, blame the Prez for all and sundry, using the same negative words to compound their limited vocabularies. Most of All, THEY DO NOT TAKE THE TIME TO RESEARCH ANYTHING PROPERLY. So we get quick/news sensational headlines, non news as news, pay daily hommage to the pedantic rants of the unscrupulous high visibility entertainers- Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, and shove down our throats anyone who seems to be having fun at John Public’s expense. The irony of it all is that this media has the gall to complain about being duped, when they dupe us every day with their lack and limitations in reporting. What a pack of jokers. It would be so heartening to tune in to productive discourse and discussion to move America forward, instead of the ineptness, quarelling, and viciousness negativity displayed.

As the midterms draw closer and Rand Paul and Sharon Angle et al begin to hang themselves the noise machine will become shriller, louder, and more outrageous. Each drop in the poll will push them closer to all out crazy and that will excite the Dem base enough to get out and vote.(As well as folks working the phone trees etc for GOTV)

caribbeanobserver, you are exactly right, and it’s all because all MSM outlets are either ideology-(FAUX NEWS) or profit- (the entire rest of the media)driven. The ideologues are like Petruchio, and will claim the sun is the moon and vice-versa, all in an attempt to attain their goal of re-instituting the Dark Ages (or whatever the hell they really want — I’m not sure even they know sometimes). And the profit-driven care only for the money, and know that with Republicans running the political show their bottom line will be all the better.
