Quote of the Day

“The Sherrod story is a reminder — much like the 2004 assault on John Kerry by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth — that the old media are often swayed by controversies pushed by the conservative new media. In many quarters of the old media, there is concern about not appearing liberally biased, so stories emanating from the right are given more weight and less scrutiny. Additionally, the conservative new media, particularly Fox News Channel and talk radio, are commercially successful, so the implicit logic followed by old-media decisionmakers is that if something is gaining currency in those precincts, it is a phenomenon that must be given attention. Most dangerously, conservative new media will often produce content that is so provocative and incendiary that the old media find it irresistible.” Mark Halperin

Wow. WOW! Mark Halperin. This is possibly the first time a player at the center of the DC traditional media establishment has been this honest about how it all works. Remarkable.

A hack from MSNBC talks smack about FNC.

If I owned a news channel and saw that FOX was clobbering me in ratings and engaging in these practices, I would instruct my employees, anchors, hosts, reporters, etc. to go all in and tear down FOX and any other news channel that follows them. I would Expose what they are doing and yak about it 24/7.

You must be in my head, Bob. Just read Halperin’s piece an hour ago.I’m shocked Halperin told the truth for a change.@Allonfla……I agree. Exactly what I would do. So why the hell don’t they do it, damn it?!

Can someone answer this question for me:Why exactly does the media give a shit wether they appear liberal or conservative?I guess the majority of the TV watching crowd must be older and conservative? How long are they going to pander to this demographic? They alienate young viewers by doing this. It will be their own demize as young viewers cancel their cable to stay on the internet.

@Lexaburn>>>A hack from MSNBC talks smack about FNC.Hmm. It’s so much more than that, Lex.

It’s too bad that blowhard Jethro wasn’t there. I have a feeling that he would have attempted to shout Halperin down and “refudiate” his ascertion. As usual, he’d be wrong though. Beedie eyed doofus!

@ J M Ashby It’s not so much that they are catering to the older demographic, it’s that for at least the last 40 years the conservatives have been screaming about the “liberal media”. It has spooked the MSM so much that they bend over backwards to avoid it. The MSM has never been that terribly liberal except in the “facts have a liberal bias” sense.

Ok, so, in addition to tattling on FNC (and his own network – shh, don’t tell anyone) the hack is relaying to us how those of his ilk stay gainfully employed. My point is he could have preached this 1,000 times before we’d ever read of Sherrod’s firing. Hell, many others have.Halperin gets no pass from me. He became a fixture within this sewage, and now he finds a conscience? This is Mr. Random nonsense during election season will benefit McCain’s campaign, let us not forget. His last name sounds like the tablet prescribed to a person who read his past inane commentary.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they actually practiced journalism instead of advertising sales.
