Suck It, Breitbart

Andrew Breitbart’s latest edited work of videotape chicanery (link goes to Breitbart’s article) has claimed another scalp. This time, it’s USDA official Shirley Sherrod who, Breitbart claims, discriminated against a white farmer couple. Breitbart selectively edited an NAACP speech by Sherrod in which she says she thought about not helping the farmers because they were being condescending to her.

As a result of Breitbart’s video, Sherrod has resigned from her post at the USDA.

However, it turns out Sherrod worked tirelessly and saved the farm.

The wife of the white farmer allegedly discriminated against by the USDA’s rural development director for Georgia said Shirley Sherrod “kept us out of bankruptcy.”

Eloise Spooner, 82, awoke Tuesday to discover that Sherrod had lost her job after videotaped comments she made in March at a local NAACP banquet surfaced on the web. [...]

But Spooner, who considers Sherrod a “friend for life,” said the federal official worked tirelessly to help the Iron City couple hold onto their land as they faced bankruptcy back in 1986.

“Her husband told her, ‘You’re spending more time with the Spooners than you are with me,’ ” Spooner told the AJC. “She took probably two or three trips with us to Albany just to help us out.”

So Sherrod went above and beyond the call of duty to help the Spooner farm.

The broader point here is the wingnut right’s desperate attempt to make it seem as though African Americans (12.4 percent of the U.S. population) are somehow keeping white people (75 percent of the U.S. population) down. This concept, of course, is the cornerstone of the white supremacist movement.

And, once again, we have another episode of the wingnut right playing the whiny victim and grappling onto the most inconsequential and ultimately fabricated controversies as a pretext for their collective cry-baby attitude.

White people control the nation and most of the western world, Breitbart, and no matter how many bullshit tapes you edit to unfairly indict black people, you’ll still be a big whiny diaper baby who boosts his career with Southern Strategy tricks and hackery.

Adding… Sherrod and Eloise Spooner on CNN today:

UPDATE: Breitbart tells Ed Morrissey he hasn’t seen the full speech. So, true to form, he posted it and made accusations based upon it — without having screened all of it.

I just read a quote from Eric Erickson stating”I’m hoping there is more to the video of Shirley Sherrod, because otherwise it seems like the right just got the scalp of a penitent lady.”I guess he can’t take the word of Mrs. Sponner. In her interview with his network CNN she stated that what Sherrod said was true. I guess he also can’t take the word of the owner of the Production Company that recorded the event and also backs up Sherrod. Just wait until you see the clip below from Morning Joe. All of them will have to eat crow. I only feel sorry for Margaret Carlson who was also duped by this bullshit video of Brietbart’s. I don’t watch Jethro’s show anymore but, I will be watching tomorrow. I can’t wait to see them eat shit on national tv!http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201007200046

I also saw a clip somewhere of Hannity last night and a panel of idiots who were trashing this woman. One hopes that this will be a lesson to the madia who allows fox to goad them into covering stories that are non stories but, I’m not going to hold my breath. I wonder how fox will try to spin this now? I’m only sorry that Jon Stewart seems to be on vacation right now and will not be able to put together the clips of this bullshit and fox’s attempt to use this as a defense against the NAACP’s ascertion that the baggers have many racists within their ranks!

And Jay Severin said on his talk show today that the tea partiers were being called racist because they want to cut taxes. That was his theme for today. For the whole three hours. That was it.

  • ec

Oh, and he also said that WASPs were being denigrated in society even though they have allowed other types of people to have rights and power.

At some point, the President needs to make his administration live up to the post-racial billing. This is not Breitbart’s fault, nor Hannity’s, nor the Tea Partier’s… this lays directly at the feet of the President. As long as the right wing nutjobs are successful at getting scalps, they will persist. The President needs to stand up for his staff personally and emphatically and defend them. The Breitbarts and Hannitys will always exist to push buttons, that’s the role they play in the drama, but the I didn’t vote for them– I voted for Mr. Obama to be the adult in the room, and it’s long overdue that he say, “Enough!”

Classic right wing tactics, whether it’s racial, economical or what have you, it’s blame the victims, or the oppressed, for what the perpetrators do to them: “Blacks are the racists for eliciting violent and bigotted reactions from racists. The unemployed are unemployd because they choose to be.” Blah, blah, blah. It’s a broken fucking record, righty. Stand up and own your hate and ignorance. I’d at least be able to look you in the eye as legitimate adversary then, but as long as you look away when you meet my gaze, and try to disown what you’re really all about, I will continue to shit on you at every turn, fuckers.

Too many people played a role in this woman’s firing! I am mad at the following in no particular order:The right-wing media who makes lies and fake-editing the foundation of their tactics. The viewers/readers of right-wing media who allow themselves to be LIED TO over and over again.ANYONE who said this woman should be fired!ANYONE who may have lied and said the White House ordered this if the WH didn’t.The White House for either demanding this OR not coming out to “refudiate” anyone who lied and said they did.WHEN WILL THE ADMINISTRATION STOP PLAYING WITH THE SOCIAL TERRORISTS!? If the right reports it, it’s a lie. Why do we encourage them to keep doing this to good people by enabling and folding?!WTF!?!?!?!Now, I am going to take a deep breath and wait a bit to hear that some asshole lied and said the WH ordered this. And I am going to hold out hope that the person who did that is discovered to be a conservative, racist tea-bagger who worships the likes of Glenn Beck. And then I am going to hope that the White House hires this woman back, fires the asshole and TELLS THE WORLD what happened. And if this doesn’t happen, then yes, I will be pissed off and I will be calling and writing the White House regularly.Jennifer

I second Jennifer. This woman needs an apology and her job reinstated immediately.

Remember the 1972 campaign of Richard Nixon and his minions of dirty tricksters? They are being re-formed and will appear with this kind of stuff all over the political landscape. Once the ACORN tapes were discredited, I knew that Breitbart was a hack for the Republican Party and anything that originates from him/foxnews/limbaugh/drudge/coulter/et.al is useless, mindless propaganda. It will be up to bloggers like us to dispute and discredit them. Mainstream media is useless and in an election year, sorry to say, Obama even more so.

  • Mather Z

This is yet another example of the classic white, evangelical, right-wing need to have it both ways.First they say they’re the majority, that the US is “a Christian nation”, therefore they’re justified in using bullying tactics and everyone else should suck it up and have to speak their language, read their bible, learn the Christian creation myth in science class, and see the Ten Commandments in every public building. Then they claim that they’re a persecuted minority under constant threat of annihilation by everybody else (like “ethnics” and Muslims), and that needs special protection. And they’re somehow able to believe both at the same time. It’s incredible, really.

Huff Po posted their story as the WRONG story and have only updated with a wimpy-ass update. Sorry, Bob and Matt, but I am FINISHED with that site. How many stories do they have to get wrong by lifting crap from the right before we stop enabling THEM? We can’t just condemn the right-wing media. We must “infudiate” any outlet who perpetuates an untruth! Here are two comment I posted there and I doubt either will see the light of day there:”You got the story wrong. Your update is insufficient. What other stories have you gotten wrong?”"That’s it! I am FINISHED WITH THE HUFF PO!!!!!!! I am sick and tired of your terrible reporting (or should I say vomiting) of INCORRECT crap you pick up from elsewhere! THIS ARTICLE WAS A PIECE OF JUNK and your update doesn’t begin to make amends for being so wrong.I have let a lot of incorrect stories slide. I have been annoyed by delayed, weak and subtle updates. But this is the last straw for me.”This poor, wonderful woman. I wish I could punch someone for her.Jennifer

  • jhw22

Yep,one of my Huff Po comments was removed right before my very eyes. Bastards.Jennifer

Mather Z:You hit the proverbial nail on the head.

  • Allonfla

So will the Left petition the WH and start a facebook page for Shirley Sherrod? Someone who was truly wronged and deserves our support.@Tony: I’m gonna have to disagree with you there. The WH never billed itself as post-racial. And come and personally defend its staff – uhm, it wasn’t ok when bush did it and no one should demand that Obama do the same. Its hypocritical.I believe the WH should have handled this better. I would think everyone at this point knows that breitbart is a liar – just look what happened to ACORN. And for crying out loud the video was 24 years old!!! why is this even in the fucking news? that’s part of the reason why Vilsack was so quick to fire her. Why didn’t the media just junk this video that was taped two fucking decades ago? I certainly hope someone is getting chewed out ’cause they certainly would be hearing my mouth.

  • Desert Crone

Do we know for sure someone at WH fired her? If so, how incredibly gullible of that person, whether it was the President of someone else. Pres. Obama was the victim of “I am a Muslim” tape. The ACORN tapes were proven to be false. Isn’t anyone in the media or WH just a tad bit skeptical when these tapes appear?@roxsteady: “I also saw a clip somewhere of Hannity last night and a panel of idiots who were trashing this woman. One hopes that this will be a lesson to the madia who allows fox to goad them into covering stories that are non stories but, I’m not going to hold my breath.”I’m not holding my breath either–the press hasn’t learned one damn thing from being duped again & again. BTW is madia a new SP word? I don’t believe I’ve seen it before. (-: For you it’s a typo; for her it would be the creation of a diseased mind.

  • Allonfla

I meant to say something that happened more than 2 decades ago. I was fuming. sorry.

  • jhw22

Desert Crone,I am seeing reports that a WH official has said they DID NOT have any role in asking for her resignation. I can imagine someone lied to her on that one.HOWEVER!!!! HOWEVER!!! They are standing by Vilsack’s decision WHICH is BASED on BULLSHIT! We’ll see what they do now that the tapes have just been released to CNN (and I imagine all media outlets). When we see that this woman stood as an example of how to overcome fears and prejudices, she will not only deserve her job back but the thanks of a grateful nation. This woman was HONEST and SINCERE and overcame her personal issues to put a person’s skin color aside. Her example follows the USDA’s policy on discrimination and sets a bar so high, many will have to try harder to clear it.Jennifer

  • jhw22

Joe Johns on CNN just said that Obama was briefed on Vilsack’s decision YESTERDAY and he supported it. But that was when the decision was based on the BS! So, we have a problem when Obama’s staff are presenting shit to him and he OKs it with the understanding they did their due diligence.FIRE Vilsack is what I am thinking. How dare he jump to this conclusion without getting all the facts and then taking that to the President. What other decisions are based on shit? What a shame that a member of this administration would use the right-wing media as a source and not even get an employees side. Sloppy, dangerous.I am still pissed beyond belief on this one! Sorry for my rants but I am livid.Have a nice evening. :) Jennifer

  • caribbeanobserver

The moral of this story is that people are too quick to jump to conclusions and report every and any little thing in nano second time. The most important part though is that the stench of FUCK news and its anchors, Breibart, his co-horts et al, remain as stink, vile and unashamedly vicious as ever.Yep, get Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and all the riled up incensed Black women you can find about the injustice of it all, and hey presto…ACTION!
