Circulate This Graph

Via Ezra Klein, tell me whether or not the stimulus worked based on this graph:

job_losses_before_and_after_obama%27s_policies.png

On the left, job losses from December 2007 through July 2009 (the earliest President Obama’s policies could actually have an impact on the economy). On the right, job losses since July 2009. Around 41,000 compared with the Bush administration’s job losses numbering 7,796,000.

I normally don’t care about this stuff, because presidents alone don’t really have significant control over the economy. That said, this is a really bogus analysis that I’m certain Klein will be taken to task for – even by those on the left. Maybe even Krugman.Economics should be left to the adults (you know, “The Really Serious People”), not pundits with PoliSci degrees.

This is perfect for teabaggers who’s reading comprehension skills are equal to my shoe size which is 8. While words clearly hurt their heads this graph is perfect. Facts don’t change just because some don’t like them or can’t deal with them. That’s why they’re called facts. And the fact of the matter is that while we’re still losing jobs, it’s not in the numbers that we were. Just imagine for a minute that we were still losing jobs at the rate of 800,000 per month. Who’d be blamed for that?
