Majority of the Oil is Gone? Huh?

What?

“The vast majority of the oil has been contained, it’s been burned, it’s been cleaned,” [White House energy adviser Carol] Browner said on CBS’s “Early Show” today. The remaining oil “will weather, it will break down naturally. Mother Nature will do her part.”

So a “vast majority” of 4.9 million barrels — or 200,000,000 gallons — of oil is gone. As if on cue as soon as BP capped the gusher.

Right.

Okay.

UPDATE: From the AP:

NEW ORLEANS – BP claimed a key victory Wednesday in the effort to plug its blown-out well as a government report said much of the spilled oil is gone — though what’s left is still nearly five times the amount that poured from the Exxon Valdez.

While I’d love to have the optimism of the administration — whistly bright-side and all — there’s nothing to celebrate here. When I see Carol Browner and Thad Allen and BP executives scarfing down Gulf shrimp and oysters by the bushel, I might start to warm up to the idea.

The Corexit shit is fucking magic.Removes embarrassing stains like they were never there.I wonder of it also entertains visiting in-laws and makes julienne fries.

Yes, Mother Nature will take care of it, the oil eating fish gobble it up and poop it out clean.

Yeah… I heard this quote on NPR this morning. I did a coffee spit-take all over my keyboard.

  • Allen Frederick

So the official Obama White House position is that the bulk of the oil is contained. Not a problem, in other words. Hmmmm … interesting.Bob keeps asking for examples of lack of leadership. Since then we’ve had the Sherrod debacle and now this statement on magic oil.Yeah – that’s real leadership. I’m sure Bush would have NEVER released such a lame statement. Actually, that’s saracasm. What I really mean is that when Bush would have released such a statement, this site would have been all over him. Evil, incompetent, on-the-take, etc …Obama says it?[chirp, chirp .....] (crickets on bobcesca.com)

Jeez, Allen. Some of us have jobs and can’t respond to your every ridiculous comment.Read Bob’s post. He IS criticizing the Obama Administration.Do you have some computer program that just spits out Conservative talking points based on headlines? I suspect that you do.

  • Irish Girl

@Allen, WTF do you think Bob is posting here? A wholehearted endorsement of what the WH is saying or a rejection? Read it again…..slowly.They did a piece on NPR with audio of a BP reps statement talking about the great job BP has done on 25% of it. Again the NPR reporter (Michelle or whoever sounds a lot like Cokie Roberts but isn’t her) started out by saying, ’75% has just disappeared?’ and I felt my blood pressure rising. Then the other reporter said, well, no, what BP should really be saying is that the 25% we could see, which was on top of the water, is not there anymore. The other 75% is is STILL in the Gulf, cannot be seen and all we can do is wait and see how the environment handles it. Although this second reporter said that some of it did just “evaporate” because it’s light crude from Louisiana. Yeah, like I buy that BS!

I also heard this story on NPR this morning and almost drove off the road! I love the evaporation line – what a crock!

Allen,If your head weren’t so firmly implanted in your rectum, you’d have read the post, and understood that Bob was offering up a pretty withering criticism of the Obama administration… and that the commenters are in full agreement with Bob.You hate Obama. We get it.Do something worthwhile, like maybe go suck Breitbart’s dick.
