Another Tea Party Meltdown

Tea party primary candidate for Senate in Delaware, Christine O’Donnell, appears to be just as idiotic as the rest of the tea party people. Whenever challenged by the press — even, in this case, a conservative radio host — they entirely fall apart.

This is a must-listen. (MP3)

Incidentally…

Seventeen years after she attended the school and two weeks before her Republican primary against Rep. Mike Castle, Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell officially earned her college degree, according to an official from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

After that radio appearance, Dickinson should consider revoking that degree.

    Wow. Spawn of Palin.

Two things:1) When did Richard Dreyfuss become a Conservative talk radio show host?2) This guy is my new Hero In Journalism, if only for doing exactly what ALL JOURNALISTS SHOULD BE DOING: Forbidding politicians to spin the conversation to their own twisted messaging rather than answering the fucking questions they’re asked!! THIS GUY ACTUALLY PODDED HER DOWN WHEN SHE WOULDN’T SHUT THE FUCK UP!! He should be awarded an Edward R. Murrow award for that interview. Hell, they should DIG UP Edward R. Murrow and have him present it to him personally. That’s how it should ALWAYS be done, and yet we sit in shock and awe when it inexplicably does. But seriously: Guy sounds EXACTLY like Close Encounters-era Dreyfuss. Which is awesome.

Fine, but you know what the narrative will be. Conservative host or not, this is just the continuation of a trend of politicians both unable and unwilling to submit to interviews or debates, having been told what to say but having no understanding of whatever they’re saying it about. This is beyond cue-card or talking-point politics.Palin’s performance in the 2008 debate against Biden is the new template. Ignore the questions, ignore what your opponent says, speak the pre-programmed lines. When challenged or asked for clarification, change the subject; talk about your opponent, make an accusation. What’s horrifying is that performances like Palin’s vs. Biden in 2008, Jan Brewer the other night, and this, actually make some voters more likely to vote for these candidates, solely by virtue of their being perceived as victims of mean, nasty, unfair, biased lamestream media people. I remember in the aftermath of the infamous Couric-Palin interview, hearing a Palin fan whine about how mean and unfair Couric had been, asking rhetorically and angrily why Couric, inter alia, did not ask Palin about what a great job she’d done for Alaska, how brave she was for having a Down Syndrome child, &c.I wonder … if Palin is the GOP nominee in 2012, will there be any presidential debates?

Is it anything like the one from Jan Brewer that you and Elvis giggled through on the podcast. :) That was painful to watch and listen to.

JackDaniel wins the internets for today.

As an FDU graduate, I don’t know who is more embarrassing: O’Donnell or Peggy Noonan.

That was amazing. The fact that the interviewer did not let the candidate control the space and insisted that she answer the questions was startling in its rarity.

She was genuinely not prepared for the way he stood up to her and called her out when she attempted to filibuster and move every exchange to Mike Castle.

And of course she came off like the high-school cheerleader who just met the Peter Principle. Good stuff.

That interview was AWESOME!She sounds about 15 years old, and dumb as a rock. He did a great job of taking her down. No muss, no fuss.

  • adx

It doesn’t matter how stupid she sounds. The average voter is even stupider. We are f#%&ing doomed.

Okay, of COURSE she’s dumb as a stump. It took her SEVENTEEN YEARS to get her degree. Jesus. It didn’t even take Edith Bunker that long to pass her driving test.
