Eff the Goddamn Rug

In case you missed the news today, the big scandal is that the Oval Office rug accurately attributes a quote to Martin Luther King, Jr., but King was actually quoting someone else. SHOCK HORROR! And yes, you read that correctly. The rug. The pattern contains various historical quotes, including the King re-quote.

This is clearly grounds for impeachment. If only the press had spent as much time investigating WMD as they’ve spent evaluating a goddamn rug.

Oh, and the beige color scheme! Special prosecutor now! BEIGE!!! Of course had the Obamas gone with something fancier, the press and the wingnuts would’ve crapped their cages, too.

The Hot Air comments are particularly infuriating. Apart from the obvious amnesia about their favorite incompetent hoople Bush, the most ridiculous of the wingnut remarks are the ones that imply President Obama had something to do with the decor and the pattern on the rug. As if the president was sitting down with swatches and patterns and notepads and a giant book of Bartlett’s Quotations. You flipping moron wingnuts.

This is like the Bizarro Bush years. Remember when we used to joke that Bush could eat a baby and his people — and the press — wouldn’t mind? Well, this president is blamed for everything by virtually everyone regardless of whether he had anything to do with it. What’s worse is that he’s blamed for shit he had nothing to do with and is accused of being a socialist commie because of it.

So we’ve gone from Illegals, to Gays, to Not-Mosques, and now to… Rugs?Very serious.

It’s enough to make me cry damn near daily. I hate the freaking republicans.

Bobi am a long-term member of your incredible blog.So please . . . do not pay any attention to this sort of bullshit.

…I need to go for another long ride….

  • ceu

I was wondering what the outrage of the week would be next week. The rug. I guessed it would be where Obama planned to spend 9/11 – I was wrong.

  • Nellcote

And this is why we can’t have nice things. Goopers will shit on anything and everything.

Bob, it would be easier to take if Arianna Huffington wasn’t promoting the crap herself. Really. She’s sharing armpit cooties with Newt Gingrich, Bob! NEWT! GINGRICH!

  • ec

Arianna has chosen to go the route of that babbling bimbo Maureen Dowd. My mom has more intellectual conversations with her senile bridge partners.

This just gets stupider and stupider. So the quote was attributed to King not by Obama, not by the rug, but by “media reports”? And attributing it to King is right anyway, because it was his own variation on the original.

Nicole – They aren’t worth your emotions. They are lower lifeforms on the scale of conciousness.Ceu – 9/11 will be the next outrage, we’re just too far away from that right now. We still have probably 3 or 4 days before the outrage over his 9/11 plans begins. In the meantime it is rugs.Who knows, maybe tomorow it will be the patterns on the drapes.

  • Allonfla

I saw what the other offices looked like, and I am not being biased when I say Obama’s looks 100 times better.

  • Nellcote

“This is like the Bizarro Bush years.”Actually it’s more like the media sucked during the Clinton years.A good explainer about those quotes:http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/4/899148/-WaPo-FAIL-on-Oval-Office-Rug-Mistake

He could have an Osama Bin Laden-skin rug, head and all, and they’d call it proof that he was palling around with terrorists. This is a blitzkrieg tabloid-offensive.They’re trying to establish a loathsome character composite so the seamless pivot to ‘government takeovers’ and ‘death panels’ and ‘evil-progressivism’ seems much more plausible in the low-information eye based on this expansive wingnut composite sketch.I notice the President’s poll numbers have been rising just a bit as of late.So by creating “Obama-fatigue” they figure that when he does show his face and gives interviews, Oval Office addresses, attends rallies, or an upcoming press conference, people will be seasoned and prepped to be annoyed at the mere sight of the man– neutralizing any positive reaction and public perception Swing Voting America may feel.Right Wing America, led by the spiderweb of think tanks, talk-radio millionaires, and Bushie pundits, are poised to have their reputations(which are built on nearly a century of relentless liberal-progressive America-hating), or their life’s work and xenophobic fuck-the-poor crusade downgraded to get the fuck outta here with that far right bullshit-status at the hands of some green-shoot positives led by the hopelessly inexperienced “Marxist/socialist/Hitleresque-N****r-Rich-Flava Flav.”That screeching you hear is an ideology that simply won’t die as it’s being swallowed by rational empirical fact– Like the Dorothy-hating Wicked Witch of the West in a yellow slicker.A President Palin’s Polar Bear-skinned rug with imprinted anti-government screeds by Reagan would probably be hailed and praised by these destructive wackaloons, while detractors would be marginalized as overly sensitive, emasculated and pussified tree-huggers with nothing better to do.I’m still convinced that slow and steady will win the race. It’d be helpful if certain lefty outlets could display just a little bit more concern for the alternative.

  • ceu

Ashby – HA! You’re probably right. The fire of their outrage needs logs tossed on it every few days…

  • Len

Wow that was some good shit MrBrink! You should replace Olbermann at this point. I don’t know what the hell is going on with that network these days. Left-wing version of Fox. Does today’s Left know a thing about loyalty. Is that such an unprogressive trait. This president has had to deal with some of the most wildest and weirdest charges in history and what does he receive from them? Crickets and derision. Remind me not to be in the same foxhole with these assholes during the next civil war.

I hear a lot of the tea people calling Obama a commie fascist. I enjoy that one immensely. We used to bash Bush for being stupid, now the stupid Bush lovers are bashing Obama for stupid reasons. It must be political karma.

  • brutlyhonest

They pissed on your rug? (or words to that effect)

  • Peebs

Dude. That rug really tied the room together.

  • cminri

Haven’t you heard? Beige is the new black.
