Jan Brewer Chickens Out of Debates

Jan Brewer is just now learning that the only way Republicans can win is to shut their mouths until November 3 or else be exposed as the incompetent doofs they are. So she won’t be participating in any more debates between now and the election following her epic meltdown this week.

“All you guys were doing and talking were beheadings, beheadings, beheadings,” the governor said. “That is something that has stuck with you all for so long, and I just felt we needed to move on.”

Yeah, I wonder why. More Republican victim-mongering. WAH! I lied about beheadings and you meanies want to prove me wrong! WAH!

But she did, however, admit to the “headless bodies in the desert” lie.

“That was an error, if I said that.”

If you said that? Of course you said that! A lot.

I wonder if Sarah Palin will accuse Brewer of being “gutless” and “impotent” for chickening out of more debates instead of “reloading.” Probably not. Jan Brewer is one of only 50 people in the entire nation who holds the distinction of being a governor. One of 50! But she’s obviously way out of her depth. Most of the ascendant Republicans and teabaggers are as well. Palin, Angle, Rand Paul, Christine O’Donnell — all of them.

And is this any surprise? Not to you and me because we have the brain capacity to remember what the country was like when Republicans controlled Washington. Brewer and the rest aren’t any different from what we witnessed for too many years. Thoughtless, incompetent, kneejerk hooples shoving us into Iraq or bungling the response to Katrina or fumbling the economy into a great recession. Trust me, all of this marble-mouthing and avoiding of the press is a big warning sign to voters. But Americans suffer from short term memory loss and dementia and have decided not to pay attention to anyone except Glenn Beck and John Boehner.

As if we need more proof that these people are complete idiots. Brewer, Boehner, Palin, etc are capable of only speaking in talking points handed out to them. Put them in a live arena and they are not capable of rational and thoughtful debate. And the American public is loving it because these people are “just like them”. Intelligence be damned!

Bob sed—>>>If you said that? Of course you said that! A lot.Hell, she repeated it ad infinitum, using it to push SB1070, and defending SB1070.She is everything the Republican Party stands for these days. An ignorant, hateful, xenophobic twit with barely two brain cells.

After less than two years of Democrat control I’ve finally been convinced that only true legitimate government is Republican. The fact that the Democrats can’t do it all by themselves is now apparent. So, I can’t wait till Speaker Boehner takes over and we finally get all the investigations under way and I can forget about having to have healthcare or a Consumer Protection Agency or these tax cuts I got that should have gone to someone that gets paid 10X my salary. Too much fancy book learnin’ makes government too complicated.

Charles Johnson at LGF said it best: “Has right wing American politics reached such a fever pitch of insanity that this is now a winning strategy — to simply cut yourself off from all possible challenges to your views, and run away from reporters?”Yes.The scary part is that it is a winning strategy. Palin’s performance in the VP debate against Biden in ’08 has become the template. Ignore the questions, ignore your opponent, say what you’ve been programmed to say even if you have no underlying knowledge or understanding of whatever it is you’re talking about. When challenged, change the subject and talk about your opponent, make an accusation, demand that he disprove or denouce something. Afterward, play the victim and declare victory.Somehow, against all logic and reason, this actually endears Republican candidates (particularly women, it seems) to Republican voters, for reasons I can’t fathom beyond having such an intense desire to endear oneself to the Republican candidate that one must invent a way to do so even if reality makes it impossible. One way to do that is to simply cast anyone who doesn’t love and worship the candidate as ‘the enemy,’ be it the opponent, the ‘lamestream media’ or just regular people who don’t intend to vote for her.I don’t think George W. Bush himself was as dumb and vapid as some of these candidates are, although he really was more of a package sold to us by Karl Rove et al. than a person of substance in his own right, an avatar for the ideologies and ambitions of others. Rand Paul at least has a philosophy, insanely utopian though it may be, underlying his statements. But I don’t get the sense that with some of these other candidates, like Palin, Angle, Brewer and O’Donnell, there’s really no there there; they just … say things.Of course, the right-wing/TP echo chamber is not big enough to win elections. However, by retreating into it and staying there, what they’re hoping is that enough people outside the echo chamber will simply vote “R” for the sake of voting “R”, whether to punish the Democrats, out of ingorance or indifference, or for whatever substance-free reason. No sane, reasonable country would hand itself over to these people under these circumstances. But that’s exactly what we’re poised to do. We’ll survive it, of course, and we’ll survive President Palin’s two terms from 2013-21, just like we survived W.’s two terms. I just wonder what the country will look like by then.

GrafZeppelin sed—>>>President Palin’s two terms from 2013-21um…… BITE your tongue, damn it!!Also. too. Palin has no chance against Obama.

A commenter on LGF actually expressed this very well – GOPers are so full of contradictions, that they could never hope to win a debate, which requires a consistent belief in one position, something they obviously don’t have. “Limited government!” (except on social issues.) “Less spending!” (except on places we want.) The truth would never hold up to scrutiny, so they count on darkness and confusion to win votes. It makes me want to cry that it’s working.

@GrafZeppelin — I hear what you’re saying about Palin, but I too believe she’s doesn’t have a snowbilly’s chance in hell of unseating Obama. Primarily because she’s not just stupid, she’s lazy as fuck and just like a few local reporters in AZ didn’t let Jan Brewer get away with shit, Palin will experience that to the 10th power. Check out Al Giordino’s recent post about the ways in which the media has changed in this country. There is hope. It’s hard to see it through our shit stained glassed but trust me it’s there…take for example what’s going on in the CO governor’s race, I know it’s not a house or senate seat, but still… thanks to their local paper’s due diligence, dan maes has been revealed to be at best a person who tells white lies, to at worse, a lying liar who lies… badly. It got so bad that yesterday the colorado republican party along with the majority of tea-partiers “unendorsed” him. on top of that you’ve now got the “mouth breathers” forced to split the vote btwn the guy who thinks bicycle lanes are an evil communist plot and the other guy who thinks michelle obama refused to place christian ornaments on the white house xmas tree. i know colorado is insane but these two guys? it’s like watching escapees from “one flew over the coockus nest” in search of a sidewalk. In other words, it ain’t pretty and i have to believe that the closer we get to Nov more and more folks are gonna realize that the tea party and its candidates are too extreme.but i’m a buddhist and i live my life by the mystic law and i firmly believe in the tenant of cause and effect, so i guess we’ll see.

I’m hoping that the majoriity of the buffoons will crash and burn. Paul and Angle losses would really be epic. While Brewer appears safe right now, I’m hoping that the local reporters continue to hammer her on that whole private prison connection that her campaing chairman is involved in. The people of Arizona who support this moron should be forced to deal with her incompetence and clownishness. As for voters in general with short term memory loss, I’d say it’s more of a willful ignorance. They haven’t forgotten what Republicans did to this country, they just don’t care. They may be stupid enough to want to punish the Dems for a lack of speed and ability to solve all of the problems in 18 months that were created by Republicans by rewarding Republicans. I think that’s called insanity.

Candidates like Jan Brewer, Christine O’Donnell, Rand Paul, and formerly Sarah Palin, honestly don’t realize what they’ve gotten themselves into. They view debates as glorified campaign rallies. They believe that they get to just stand there and mumble campaign slogans and talk about what they want to talk about. None of these people have ever been in a real debate and truly don’t even understand the definition. What they do know is that they are outmatched by even the most average reporter and know that answering questions leads to deeper questions that reveal their superficial understanding of just about everything.Unfortunately, the media doesn’t seem interested in exposing them unless it’s part of an easily mocked gaffe. Palin, O’Donnell, Brewer and Paul are not simply making mistakes on the campaign trail. These are not “America’s Funniest Campaign Gaffes.” They are wholly unqualified for the office they seek and the media continues to treat them gingerly in some effort at fairness, as if Jan Brewer simply made a misstatement, and hey, it’s open to interpretation. It’s not. She out and out made shit up and refuses to admit it. That’s a enormous character flaw, one that should disqualify her for office. But if exposed by any media, it’s characterized as being mean, and the media is instantly cowed. And then we end up with half-wits in Congress like Louie Gohmert.

By the way, have you guys seen this? It’s one minute and 10 seconds worth of pure genius.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PK-WIQta-Q&feature=player_embedded

We’ll survive it, of course, and we’ll survive President Palin’s two terms from 2013-21

Graf, we have to worry about President Palin 2013-2014-1/2. Her VP will take over after that.

Spot on Nanotyrannus! Gomer is down right scary. I often wonder what the people who actually voted for him think when they see him on the news, the Senate floor, and worse, on the Daily Show? What goes through their minds when they think, “And I voted for this lunatic”? Clearly I’m giving them too much credit. Anyone who voted for this stupid, country, bumpkin hasn’t had a clear thought in their head since first grade.

Jeezus, Bob. Way to make me think about moving to New Zealand.

  • roxsteady

I will say this, if her Democratic challenger is smart he’ll tar her with her headless bodies statement, her refusal to answer questions about the private corrections facilites and the fact that she’s pulled her campaign ads from the cbs affiliate whose investigative reporter exposed the story. He should also paint her as being responsible for the lack of tourism in Arizona by passing SB1070 when both crime and immigration are way down. He could use all of this to expose her as someone who is not interested in Arizona except as a money making scheme for herself and her partners. I can’t wait to see the next set of polls out of Arizona. I’d just like to see her numbers drop so the GOP can start soiling themsleves.

The only thing that will cause crashing and burning will be if the quietly sensible and educated electorate comes out to vote. The right is enraged that they are out of power and are getting louder by the day. I really hope that folks wake up and realize what would happen if they retake the congress. But yes, a question from the press or another candidate just elicits another talking point in response. Jan Brewer’s response to the headless thing was to bring up her opponents support from the unions and their supposed boycott. To the right this is a perfectly legitimate reply. Never mind what I said, what about the Unions! Because, you know, the unions are full of overpaid, over compensated, lazy so-called workers (and alot of them are brown), and this is a much more important issue to Arizonians. Well, if you hadn’t signed that dumb law, there wouldn’t be any boycotts now, would there? Doesn’t matter, just play to the base.

Since the Brewer campaign is punishing KPHO for investigating the connection between top Brewer aides and CCA by pulling its advertising, the other TV stations in Arizona should give a portion of the proceeds from Brewer campaign ads to KPHO.Yes, it would require stations to help a competitor (the dull “thud” you just heard was station managers’ heads exploding), but it would send a very clear signal that journalists—and media outlets—will stand up for each other: screw with one of us, you screw with all of us.As an alternative, every other station could take up the same investigation and blanket the airwaves with it. Make it impossible for Jan Brewer to show her face without being asked uncomfortable questions. And, as long as I’m wishing, I might as well wish for a pony.

  • MrBrink

“Beheadings, beheadings, beheadings!”It’s like Satan’s soccer field out there!GooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaL!!!AhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhHHHH!!!Jan Brewer should check to see if she’s still got hers.

  • MrBrink

“Governor Brewer!”"Voters are saying you’ve completely lost your head.”"Can you answer to these accusations?”"Ooh! Governor Brewer! Over here!”"Will you be replacing your head with a pumpkin, or cabbage? and will you be filing a missing persons report until your head is found?”"Governor Brewer…heads…or tails?”"Governor Brewer…you’re leading your opponent by a head; as head of Arizona state, will you be heading to the capitol ahead of schedule to answer to these accusations before they come to a head?”

  • Dr. Squid

Jan Brewer has just committed THE cardinal sin against today’s Republicans; she backtracked and apologized. This will not be tolerated by the base.Meanwhile, is it wrong to say that those misaligned eye sockets freak me out a bit?

  • staci

but it would send a very clear signal that journalists—and media outlets—will stand up for each other: screw with one of us, you screw with all of us.

The “media” sure stuck together when the White House went against Fox News. Maybe it’s different on the national level. (typed as she rolls her eyes)

I was reading this article ( http://www.nowtoronto.com/news/story.cfm?content=176564 ) while enjoying a meal at my favorite organic eatery, when it occurred to me, that besides our vote as an expression of democracy and a desire for progressive change, we are also consumers. Who supports this old catcher’s mitt? Which companies? Time to let them know we won’t be buying their products or services. And start spreading the word. Supporters of haters, criminals and worse won’t go without consequences…need to do some research…

I wouldn’t classify it as short-term memory loss as much as I would selective hearing.
