Sucking from the government teat…

Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller, an outspoken critic of federal funding, has in the past obtained federal farm subsidies in the amount of more than $7,000 for Kansas farmland, an Alaska Dispatch investigation has revealed.

Holy effing hell. I have one question for Joe Miller, who hates federal spending and wealth redistribution: Can we have it back, please?

Can we have it back, please? One of the best lines, out of many, from The West Wing made by President Jed Bartlet to Governor Ritchie during their Presidential debate.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyqzPu5pX6U

I was thinking this morning about creating a form for the TP movement. Included in this form will be a declaration to not accept ANY government help in any form. No more social security checks. If they get sick, don’t use their Medicare benefits but pay for all doctor, hospital, lab and pharmacy costs out of pocket (you know, that whole self sufficient thingy). If their house is burning, they should make sure that no fireman whose job was saved by stimulus dollars should work to put out the fire. The tax cuts for the middle class – refuse to accept the money and write a check to send it back to the government to pay down the deficit. I could go on but if they just do this little bit, I won’t complain a bit when they come out in protests against the rest of us.

Devil’s Advocate: Government and business are games with rules. If you can take advantage of a rule to gain resources or advantage, you do it. Who among us sent back our tax refund check from Bush, even though we thought it was dubious policy? If IRS says I can deduct certain expenses I might think are stupid, I deduct them. I won’t weep and moan when the tax laws are changed the following year, and might even call my senator (if I had one) in support of the change. But I do take the deduction. Can you imagine a football team declining a penalty because, what the hell, it was a bad call?I think we middle and lower classes might benefit from looking at government spending as a game — a game that might prove beneficial to our interests. The rich folks sure see it that way, even (or especially) the ones who cry out for smaller government.Sounds crass, but the competing meme that government is worthless/incompetent/dangerous is a) simply not true, and b) exactly what keeps people from demanding decent value for their tax dollar.

I am reminded of Rand Paul and his opposition to socialism, expect when it benefits his practice.http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/05/14/rand-paul-cut-spending-but-not-medicare-doctor-payments/But on Thursday evening, the ophthalmologist from Bowling Green said there was one thing he would not cut: Medicare physician payments. In fact, Paul — who says 50% of his patients are on Medicare — wants to end cuts to physician payments under a program now in place called the sustained growth rate, or SGR. “Physicians should be allowed to make a comfortable living,” he told a gathering of neighbors in the back yard of Chris and Linda Wakild, just behind the 10th hole of a golf course.

Doublethink, where one holds two simultaneous opinions which cancel out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both is rampant i.e. to repudiate morality while laying claim to it.Or to despise government, but want to be government.Or say to hate socialism, and yet defend the largest socialist institution on the planet (US military) etc etc

Pp Quiz: How did Joe Miller pay for his education?

I’ve heard the TP response to “can we have it back please”. They say that they have paid the taxes so they deserve the money.I swear these people truly believe that when they withdraw money from the bank, it is the same $10s and $20s that they deposited the week before.

Only slightly off-topic:Alaska Muckraker points out that the latest Rasmussen Poll indicates that I Eat Gravel and I might just be right about Murkowski’s write-in effort handing the seat to Miller.
