The Politics of Stink Bugs

Here on the east coast, the introduced insect species known as the “stink bug” is everywhere. I mean, I must flush two dozen of these bastards every day. They’re all over the windows, crawling up the walls, buzzing aimlessly around lights.

Anyway, a group of congressmen, half of them Republicans and lead by a Maryland Republican, are stepping up to address the problem. You know, small government Republicans. Here’s how:

The group of lawmakers are looking for “coordinated federal government assistance” from the Obama administration to help farmers and local economies deal with the bugs.

In particular, the 15 lawmakers are eyeing a proposal to reclassify the species under federal guidelines to expand regulatory authority over the bugs.

In other words, faced with a environmental problem, the first instinct from conservative Republican politicians is to ask the federal government to do something. Indeed, they’re specifically asking for federal bureaucrats to sweep into action and use expanded federal regulations to help people.

Wow. And of course the federal funds will come from taxpayers — redistributed from states without a stink bug in sight.

Adding... My brother recommends the Bugzooka for all your stink bug elimination needs.

We thought it was just us until last week. Our deck has been covered with them–INSIDE the screened area as well as outside. It’s been driving us crazy. I was actually kind of glad to hear that it wasn’t just some mystical force drawing them to only our house. Then once I started realizing the total impact, I was less glad. This is one of those things my conservative acquaintances will liken to a plague giving proof that the country is going in the wrong direction and God is sending a message.Your post is hilarious, btw, and will be shared on my FB to help remind my enthusiasm-gapped friends of who Republicans really are.

They are aggressive little fuckers that seem to get into your house no matter what. Interesting that their Republican Stink Bug counterparts will be trying to eradicate them. I wonder if the Bugzooker would work on John “Boner”…

It wont Will, he counteracts its ability with his own tremendous sucking

US Bug Invasion……..bedbugs and stinkbugs invade the east coast. In an unprecedented moment in history, the GOP are taking their proper place…..on their knees, pleading for the government’s help….”it’s an ugly planet, it’s a bug planet”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMTz9nIUkGc

This is just like activist judges. Gov’t action is fine as long as it supports their own goals.

Stink bugs? They’ve been around for years… Boehner, O’Donnell, Palin, Bachmann. Beck, Limbaugh, etc.

  • outofline

@2 cents – right on the head of the nail – the thing to do is to catch them gently. Don’t squish ‘em because that’s when they stink!

We in the Northwest cannot support this. Do what we do. Get more spiders.
