Listen All Y’all, It’s a Republican Sabotage

Steve Benen (with inspiration from Yglesias) about the Republican strategy of deliberately sabotaging the economic recovery:

We’re talking about a major political party, which will control much of Congress next year, possibly undermining the strength of the country — on purpose, in public, without apology or shame — for no other reason than to give themselves a campaign advantage in 2012.

And why not? They can get away with it. No one will challenge it, partly because it’s unhip to say potentially incendiary things about the opposition, and partly because the Republicans have such a powerful messaging machine. They can get away with just about any steaming pile of insanity they choose — even if it’s sabotaging the economy for political gain.

All thanks to that ball-less wonder named Barack Obama, who squandered the greatest political capital ever handed a President. What did he spend it on? Enriching his corporate buddies.Obama: Worse than Bush. Thankfully, he’ll only be a one-term President.

Worse than Bush? Please. No President has ever been, and likely ever will be, worse than Bush.

Who squandered the greatest political capital ever handed a President? Wow, how many people would have guessed George W. Bush right after 9/11? And what did he spend in on? TWO wars and tax cuts that used up not only the surplus handed to him by Clinton but all our money for the foreseeable future.Yet, Obama is worse than Bush because…why again?

Rivera, go home. Which I presume is FDL or Salon–>Greenwald. Your kind of “holding him accountable” produces NOTHING but a Republican president, just as it produced a Republican Congress this time. FUCK YOU. And yes, I resent the hell out of all of you Firebagging ASSHOLES.

  • laddieluv

Ya, Rivera. And firebagging dicks. What Nicole said.On steroids.Times 10.Don’t even get me going.

A limerick for Jess Rivera:A simpleton internet troll
Actually thinks it’s quite droll.
I’ll go out on a limb,And suggest it’s quite dim,
And a waste of our time, on the whole.

@Niteowl- because he is Black, let’s not forget!!Americans have become the laughing stock of the world with their ability to quote stupidity, say stupidity, focus on stupidity, and vote stupidity. And yes, I hope he decides to NOT run, because of the ungratefulness, under appreciation and disrespect of what he does, and has achieved.Put your Palins and whomever else and see what you get.Every damn day all the bloggers bitch about is the minutest detail of what isn’t there etc, and we can only find headlines of what the Republican/GOP/teabagger has said or done followed by photos of their ugly evil old faces. And then they wonder why people don’t hear the messaging of the democrats. Why? Because it is screened out by the liberal bloggers repugs headlines messaging, imprinted on our minds daily. I am sorry to say but the liberal bloggers have to get more democrat friendly.

On topic, it’s not “unhip to say potentially incendiary things about the opposition,” it’s unacceptable to say anything negative about the Republican Party, even—or perhaps especially—if true. If a prominent D called out the Rs on their screw-America strategy, the Villagers would clutch their pearls and hurry to their fainting couches, David Broder would wheeze out yet another column on the wonders of bipartisanship, and newspapers around the country would run editorials declaring for the 1,732,459th time since the 2008 campaign that this is a center-right nation.

  • JackDanieL

Is this supposed to be some sort of omniscient prediction?? Really goin out on a limb there Benen…That quote perfectly sums up the past two years as much as the next, and yet, nobody has made a peep about it. We could be well on our way to a real recovery with an honest effort from them the past 24 months.

The truly effing worst thing about this is that the electorate created this effing mess!WTF? This is a Thomas Frank moment in history! It seems like the electorate wants to punish the outgoing congress for cracking down on the bad guys so the incoming congress can reward the bad guys ………… and quite literally fuck 98% of the American population in the process! How damn stupid can we be? Oh yeah, there’s that two term GW thing :^(I truly believe we’re headed off a cliff. Sarah Palin for POTUS – you betcha! I believe it can happen!

I noticed that was happening a year ago. I figured it was (as Jon Stewart so skillfully put it regarding Fox News) that either they were just horribly idiotic or that they were, as much as I hate using this word to describe someone, evil.To me republicans portray normal human instincts very very well. Unfortunately normal human instincts are what caused sooo much bad in the world and pretty much all of history.I don’t see how this can be fixed unless a lot more of your citizens stop being so ignorant and give a flying shit and vote. So I invite all democrats who lost hope to come to Canada to live. That way all those ignorant douches can have their Palin and such and we all can just laugh and laugh and laugh as we watch them destroy there standing in the world and themselves. Sorry if I offended anyone.

  • SugaRazor

You’re gonna be really bummed when President Palin’s first act is to annex Canada.

Jess Rivera? Who the fuck is this asshole? Another clueless douche.

Barack Obama wasn’t even on the ballot, but with the help of some firebagging idiots the Republicans managed to make the midterm all about him.

The malefactors’ strategy worked in part because the president is an African-American member of the Democratic Party.Yes, it really is that simple. This whole thing began as soon as Barack Hussein Obama announced his candidacy. It went on through the primary and the general election. It continued on throughout the first two years of this administration. The other part is our corrupted fourth estate hell-bent on victimizing us spiritually and mentally. That is the real culprit behind these shenanigans the Cons are getting away with. The media dignifies each and every idiotic thing these imbeciles pursue, not for the sake of balance, but in order to create conflict where there is none. I must say, I’ve never seen the media provoke a president this much. Yes, the media will do its worst in covering the ignoble efforts of the Republicon reactionaries. They’re still acknowledging the Teabagger farce as more than a Con rebranding effort in light of the fact that they were all ashamed to be known as “Republicans.”With that said, it was Democrats that could have prevented this political catastrophe. Their indolence will be our undoing. Do not buy into the nonsense about people being underwhelmed by way of disappointment. No, this was typical off-election laziness that contributed to this predicament. A damned shame.
